It may be way early on a Monday morning, but late last night, Variety learned that Steven Spielberg's upcoming film adaptation of the popular Ernest Cline novel Ready Player One has cast Japanese actor/singer Win Morisaki as the reserved Toshiro Yoshiaki a.k.a. Daito. This will be Morisaki's Hollywood feature film debut. His previous credits include several Japanese films and television series and he's also the lead vocalist for the Japanese boy band PrizmaX.

He joins a cast headlined by up-and-coming stars Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse) as Wade Owen Watts a.k.a. Parzival and Olivia Cooke (Me And Earl And The Dying Girl) as Evelyn Cook a.k.a. Art3mis. Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline) will star as the film's villain with Simon Pegg (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation), Mark Rylance (Bridge Of Spies), and T.J. Miller (Deadpool) rounding out the impressive supporting cast. With the casting of Daito now complete, the only two major roles left to fill are Aech and Shoto and considering the major spoiler attached to one of those roles, it'll be interesting to see whether the casting will actually be announced ahead of the film's start date later this month or if they'll try to keep it under wraps.

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.

But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.

Ready Player One features:
Director: Steven Spielberg
Tye Sheridan as Wade Owen Watts/Parzival
Olivia Cooke as Samantha Evelyn Cook/Art3mis
Ben Mendelsohn as Nolan Sorrento
Simon Pegg as Ogden "Og" Morrow
Mark Rylance as James Donovan Halliday
T.J. Miller as i-R0k
Win Morisaki as Toshiro Yoshiaki/Daito

Ready Player One logs into the OASIS on March 30, 2018

@HappyHater - As someone who was reading Tintin at the age of seven, I thought the film perfectly captured the spirit of the source material.

A good fun book which I recommend, I certainly enjoyed it.

After they adapted 11/22/63 as well I'm just waiting for someone to adapt the excellent Time and Time Again by Ben Elton, great time travel book about a guy trying to prevent WOrld War 1 and the ramifications of this.

READY PLAYER ONE is one of the trippiest books I've ever read. I wonder if the movie will be able to capture the vastness of some of the books environments.

I hope the script writers have improved upon the incredibly racist dialogue for he Japanese characters in the novel. It's laughable how bad it is.

@SmellofDuty - The dialogue of Ready Player One in general is pretty awful. The book is amazing but the author wasn't very good at making conversations feel real or genuine. That was one of the major week points.

I don't think it was racist though. I think the idea was that the game world allowed people to pretend to be something else and the japanese brothers were living out their fantasy of being honorable samurais.

The only thing that bums me out about the movie is Spielberg's claim that he won't include references to his own work. Could be a fib, of course, but perhaps the movie would have been better left to someone without a direct link to films of the period, but skilled at 70s/80s homages *cough* Abrams *cough*.
