Legendary Filmmaker Ridley Scott Has Plans To Develop Another BLADE RUNNER Movie

Despite lackluster box office results for Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, producer Ridley Scott says he's got another Blade Runner story ready to evolve & be developed, should the opportunity arise.

Sir Ridley Scott isn't quite finished dreaming of electric sheep just yet. Speaking to Digital Spy, the director of 1982's Blade Runner and executive producer of 2017's sequel Blade Runner 2049, revealed he has plans for another film in the franchise.

When asked whether there was scope for a new film in the Blade Runner franchise, Scott responded: "I hope so... I think there is another story. I've got another one ready to evolve and be developed so there is certainly one to be done for sure."

Scott's response is particularly interesting because of how Blade Runner 2049 fared financially. The Denis Villeneuve-directed sequel was met with praise by both critics and fans alike, although it didn't perform particularly well at the box office. Then again, neither did Scott's original way back in 1982. Nevertheless, the Blade Runner franchise has been a staple in sci-fi lore, and there's certainly room to continue exploring the dystopian future - especially given the impending replicant revolution alluded to in Blade Runner 2049.

Would you like to see a third Blade Runner film?

@MissCipher - That would be ideal, but I don't think there's a snowballs chance in Hell Villeneuve comes back. He's just way too busy for the foreseeable future.

Blade runner is a cinematic experience. As long as it stays on course and doesn’t go left I believe they can still get some good stories going in this universe

I loved 2049, but to me it was a perfect ending to Deckard's story. Sure that world is ripe for spin-offs and sequels and prequels, but I'd rather they left this on alone.

@RorMachine - I thought it was a heavy sequel set up to be honest. Talk of a rebellion, at the end she says "she's coming home", wallace's full plan never revealed.

@MissCipher - I know, but that's the sort of thing I hope they don't go near. Can you imagine how potentially awful something like that could be? "BLADE RUNNER: ROSE OF THE REPLICANTS"

@RorMachine - Eh,i suppose thats an outcome, but its possible they could go for something else. Maybe a comic or an anime to finish it off.

Ridley, every time you think about this idea - re-watch Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. Then just say no.

My favorite movie of 2017 and one of my all-time sci-fi masterpieces.

If it is possible to make the film on the cheap...it could potentially be an interesting film franchise. I think that someone like Neil Blomkamp who is known for making stellar looking films on small budgets...would be a good person to take over the franchise.

The only Blade Runner sequel I want is a low budget ($100 million) movie set AFTER the replicant revolution (we've seen robot revolutions a million times), and IMPORTANTLY, SET IN SPACE, in the colonies. That's something we haven't seen before.
