HAN SOLO Spin-Off Adds THE WIRE & THE NIGHT OF Star Michael K. Williams In A Key Role
Regardless of how you feel about a Han Solo spin-off without Harrison Ford, you have to admit the film is assembling quite the cast and today, they've added another key piece in Michael K. Williams!
Variety is reporting that Primetime Emmy-nominee Michael K. Williams has joined the cast of Disney & Lucasfilm's upcoming Star Wars spin-off film, Han Solo, in what's being described as a key role. Further details on his part weren't provided.
Williams joins a cast headlined by Alden Ehrenreich (Rules Don't Apply), who will play the title character, while Donald Glover (Atlanta) will play a young Lando Calrissian. Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes), Thandie Newton (Westworld), and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Man Up) will also feature in undisclosed roles.
The Lego Movie directing duo of Phil Lord & Chris Miller are helming the Star Wars spin-off with a script from Jon and Lawrence Kasdan. Plot details, like with any film in the franchise, are unsurprisingly being kept under lock-and-key.
The film has been slated for release on May 25, 2018, during the Memorial Day weekend.
Williams is best known to audiences for his roles as Omar Little on the hit HBO drama The Wire and as Chalky White on Boardwalk Empire. He also recently returned to the network for an acclaimed turn on their latest mini-series The Night Of. Williams' other more prominent recent credits include, but are not limited to, Community, 12 Years a Slave, RoboCop, Kill The Messenger, Inherent Vice, The Gambler, The Spoils Before Dying, Triple 9, Ghostbusters, & Assassin's Creed, and he currently stars on the ABC mini-series When We Rise and the Sundance Channel series Hap and Leonard.
