When Disney purchased Lucasfilm, it was made clear that George Lucas wouldn't have anything to do with the Star Wars franchise moving forward but that his ideas for a new trilogy would be followed. That quickly changed and J.J. Abrams and company instead decided to formulate something entirely new for the franchise which involved both the original cast alongside a trio of younger newcomers.
Now, in a new interview, Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Mark Hamill has revealed that while he's excited about where the current trilogy is going, he wishes Disney had followed the path Lucas envisioned.
"What I wish is that they had been more accepting of his guidance and advice," the actor reveals. "Because he had an outline for [Episodes] VII, VIII and IX. And it is vastly different to what they have done. But then again, I don’t want to be an old stick in the mud. There were the originals. There’s the prequels. But that’s all George. And now we have the next generation. And as far as I can see they are more popular than ever." There's no denying that's the case and Disney made the right choice.
After all, while we don't know what Lucas had planned, the prequels were divisive enough to leave us worried about where he would have taken things next and clearly not even longtime friend and Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy felt comfortable seeing his vision brought to life for a new trilogy...
