MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE Director Loses Interest In Helming A STAR WARS Or Superhero Movie Thanks To Toxic Fans

There have been rumblings that Mission: Impossible - Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie might helm Man of Steel 2 but the filmmaker has now made it clear that toxic fans have ruined that and more...

Christopher McQuarrie's work on the Mission: Impossible franchise has been nothing short of incredible so it's no wonder his name has frequently done the rounds in regards to who will direct Man of Steel 2. We have no idea how close that came to happening but if the filmmaker did have any interest in the project, it evaporated last night after he encountered some anti-The Last Jedi "fans."

As you can see below, both McQuarrie and Rian Johnson found themselves caught in the middle of a pretty bizarre exchange and it seems that was enough to make him realise he doesn't want to make movies for people like that whether we're talking about a comic book adaptation or Star Wars.

It is, of course, important to note that "fans" like this are just a very small - and vocal - minority but it seems that's still enough to put the brakes on the possibility of McQuarrie tackling either genre. That's a great shame and you have to hope his opinion changes somewhere down the line. What do you guys think? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on this news in the comments section below.

He isn't wrong.

Though I personally wouldn't base any of my life's decisions on interactions via social media.

Sounds more like he was speaking in the moment. As we all do at times.

Hopefully he will reconsider once he sees the outpouring (it will come) of true fans and not the toxic trolls whose voice is small and meaningless in comparison

It’s too bad, but he ain’t wrong.
Some “Fans” are getting freaking ridiculous and making Fandom in general look bad.

@bigdannymac - It's DC. Half the fan base is toxic trolls. The number of times I've had my sanity, my intelligence and my DC and comic fan status questioned just for LIKING "Man of Steel" and"Batman v Superman", if I didn't love DC, and it's characters, I'd leave it too. The fan base is just so toxic I'm surprised I've survived this long.

@SisterSunday52 - YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. “Fans” hated a man (Snyder) that they didn’t even know. They even went as far as to bash anybody who didn’t hate Batman V Superman. They’re ridiculous.

@SisterSunday52 - star wars fans are even worse. they forced daisy ridley (rey) and kelly marie tran (rose) to quit social media. the films arent even their fault.

problem is its only a vocal few who are the abusers but they are the loudest and biggest bullies.

@DENNISsystem - No. People can have the same name and it can mean absolutely nothing.

@Nebula - True, but If there was even a CHANCE that anyone related to Ralph McQuarrie would be involed with Star Wars again I know I would Be extremely invested

"MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE Director Loses Interest In Helming A STAR WARS Or Superhero Movie Thanks To Toxic Fans"

That's ironic because many fans have lost interest in Star Wars thanks to toxic directing

@Krooklyn -
Don't blame the fans. Johnson's mistake was getting into it online with trolls.

You never see Zack Snyder fighting with fans online about his divisive films, much less mocking those who didn't like the film.

Snyder has weaknesses, but one thing that guy is good at is professionalism. He doubles down on what he wants to do no matter how much you hate it, and he doesn't weigh in on critics.

When I see how much hate Johnson got with The Last Jedi (not only on Twitter, even here), I can't blame them :/
