@thewanderer - I don’t know, Rise of Skywalker kind of retroactively sullied the last two movies and genuinely got me to stop caring about Star Wars. They’re just movies so it’s not a huge deal or anything, but I don’t think I’ve ever been that disappointed leaving a theater. I really wanted to like it, and liked a lot of episodes 7 and 8, but it was just so creatively bankrupt and stupid

It could have been better but it is hard to ever really know. Colin Trevarrow has a really rough record with his big blockbusters.

Oh paper, however, it certainly looks like it had more interesting ideas and took characters in more interesting directions.

It had no plot. It was also a dumb scavenger hunt. It had tiny scenes people might find attractive but it added nothing new to Star Wars, just like Disney's Star Wars has added nothing new. And since no stories began in Force Awakens, no stories could be ended in IX.

@PartyKiller - I was a big defender of Force Awakens when it came out, but the farther away we get from the trilogy the more pointless it seems. Why would I ever rewatch episode VII when I could just rewatch episode IV for the same story done way better?

If nothing else, the concept art and script (not to mention that banger of a title) introduced far more interesting ideas than Rise of Skywalker did. We'll never know if the final product would have been any better, but I'll say definitively that I was/am more engaged in Trevorrow's script and concept art than anything I saw in Rise of Skywalker.

Hell, I was more interested in Kevin Smith's guess at the meaning of the title of Episode IX than anything we got. He speculated that the "rise of Skywalker" was referencing the "rise" of a new faction of force users, that the Jedi would indeed end with Luke, and Rey and/or Ben would be the first of the Skywalkers... the "new" Jedi order. I really liked that idea.

Not that I even hated RoS. In fact, I barely remember it at all.

Yeah, and my 10 ideas would've been better too (5 of which you can read in my comment on SFFGazette).

As much as I dislike elements from TROS, I do still think it lays a lot of great groundwork for a threequel trilogy to build off of.
