ALIEN 5: Latest Draft Of The Screenplay Was Actually Worked On As Recently As This March

Despite Ridley Scott's plans to continue his Alien prequel films, it looks like the planned fifth chapter was being worked on as recently as this past March. A sign, perhaps, that it is moving forward!

Ridley Scott's attempt to deliver a series of prequels leading up to the original Alien was met with a mixed response, and Alien: Covenant was somehow even more divisive than Prometheus. Recently, the filmmaker indicated that he hopes to continue with telling that story, but it seems the Disney/Fox merger has left the franchise's future in doubt.

While Neill Blomkamp was attached to Alien 5 for a time (that was going to be a direct sequel to James Cameron's Aliens), that sadly fell apart, and we recently found out that longtime producer Walter Hill had taken a crack at the screenplay. Unfortunately, it sounded like actress Sigoruney Weaver wasn't on board with the idea, and unconvinced it would ever see the light of day.

To build hype for Alien 5, Brandywine Productions has shared a photo of the screenplay which we can see was last worked on in March. It doesn't reveal much, but does include quotes by authors Edgar Allan Poe and William Tecumseh Sherman.

There's no indication that Disney will move forward with this screenplay, but it's hard to imagine the studio wanting to leave the franchise on the shelf for too long given its past success.

If Prometheus never got made it would have become this massive “what could have been” A prequel directed by the man who started it all, now I don’t mind Prometheus but it’s an example to never assume what nearly got made was better than something you actually got *cough cough* Snyder cut

Disclaimer: I do actually think Snyder cut will be better than what we got in theatres

@manofillintent1 - After watching Alien 3 and 4 (Resurrection), I don't want an Alien 5. There is no good or creative way to continue after 3&4's terrible travesty that murdered this franchise.

I'm in the minority but I prefer a sequel to Prometheus & Alien Covenant because I like the character of "David" played by Fassbender. His character was a mix of TE Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) and Roy (Blade Runner) in finding an identity and meaning to life. It's an interesting concept that should be fleshed out in a sequel. Those 2 aren't perfect films but the character and concept are more interesting than an Alien 5.

@mastakilla39 - I think I’d rather an alien 5 than a Blomkamp retcon regardless of my thoughts on 3&4 I love Ripley but alien stories can continue without her, the comics are great, maybe a tv series? Covenant was the killer for me I think it’s the worst in the franchise but I’m probably in the minority there

@mastakilla39 - The concept that robot is created by man who is created by "god" who seeks to destroy man, who in turn sees his robot creation destroy "god", but then also seeks to destroy man -- is pretty cool to me.

@mastakilla39 - Except this was supposed to be a sequel to Aliens. Alien 2.5?

@mastakilla39 - Alien 5 wouldn't have continuing from Alien 3 and 4 though. It would have been a direct sequel of Alien 2. So 3 and 4 wouldn't have happened yet, or ignored/retconned all together.

And there's a lot they could have done after Alien 2. They could have discovered the Alien homeworld OR revealed that Newt actually got impregnated by a facehugger while she was cocooned in the Alien hive in Aliens. They go bacm to earth and Newt unknowingly brings a Xenomorph with her, which starts a whole Earth infestation story.

Going to the prison for Alien 3 was pretty much the worst idea they could have had.

If it does go ahead ...I just hope R Scott is not involved. Prometheus and Covenant could have been real special ...instead they confusing and frustrating! They should get a director who's a fan of the franchise. Aldrin 5 should be a stand alone sequel...and not reference A: Resurrection...coz it was atrocious!!

Prometheus was an excellent science fiction film, despite flaws. Covenant was frustrating to watch. All of that said, I want to know the fate of that crazy-ass robot David.

I hope they finish the David story. He's a great complex character. The scenes with him and Pierce were my fav.

Sigourney is 70 now - although she looks great - she's getting up there. If they want to do it they better get on it.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, it make little difference whether or not it gets made, the fans who want it will flock to it and those that do not want it don’t have to.

Prometheus was somewhat enjoyable. Covenant was pretty damn bad. However, I have yet to lose complete faith in this franchise *cough* Terminator *cough* so I would always check out another if it ever happened.
