Christopher Nolan Talks Writing The INTERSTELLAR Script, The Film's Score, More

Christopher Nolan, the 44 year old director who has written and/or directed many great films such as, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, Inception and many more, sat down with the Metro and talked about the newest film he's directed, Interstellar. Below, you can read what Nolan had to say about what he did before he even started to write the actual script for the film. He also talked about him and Hans Zimmer's conversation. Check it out!

"Before I actually started working on the script, I wrote out a page of what I considered to be the heart of the story — the relationships, the idea of a father having to leave his children — and I gave it to Hans and said, 'Work on that for a day, give me what you've got at the end of the day and that will be the seed to grow the score from. And indeed, the finished score came from that particular creative act. And that, I think, is just an illustration of the approach we all tried to take in terms of keeping this about the humanity and using the exploration of the universe as really a lens through which to view ourselves as human beings."

Hans Zimmer is a man whose won countless awards and scored many films (The Dark Knight , Inception, 12 Years a Slave, The Lion King, Etc.) and now he takes on the responsibility to compose the music for Nolan's newest hit, Interstellar. How did he do with this film's music? That's up for you to decide. Interstellar stars Matthew McConaughey, Ellen Burstyn and Anne Hathaway (who portrayed Black Cat in Nolan's Batman Trilogy) and it is in theaters now. Did he mention that part where he's blocking Jessica Chastain from promoting her other film and block her chances of getting her Oscar nom? No? ok.

This movie was fantastic. One of the best sci-fi films in years. This and Edge of a Tomorrow were just great.

Meh, it tries too hard.
Half of the people won't even understand what's happening and they clearly wanted to explain it as they take their time to do it.
The visual effects are amazing but the movie goes down in it's third act.
It will obviously be a divisive as some people seem to like it a lot, but for me is just another movie

The perfect movie, utterly perfect. I honestly do not understand the people who say that Nolan is a shit director; perhaps those bigots should go back to the comfort of their blithe Marvel movies.

This movie was perfect, it was human, it was real, the twist left me speechless.

Despite amazing visuals, phenomenal acting and great cinematogrophy, it lacked in story. It was confusing at times and the Tesseract at the end felt way to outlandish for the sotry and it's somewhat realistic tone, personally.

People should see this movie twice. On first watch, you're trying to piece together what's exactly happening and the emotion can really affect you so much that you lose focus of the science. Second watch is so satisfying when you notice how incredibly constructed this movie truly is.

One of my favorite movies of all time. Truly extraordinary.

I loved this film. Captivating and controversial, much like 2001: A Space Odyssey was when it was first released.

we are not saying he is shit. Hes overrated and not as talented as you think. He tries way to hard and his scripts and stories try to be smarter than they actually are.

The film was inconsistent and had some plot holes but still a good film... Inception is still my fav movie from Nolan.

@TankD

Nolan provides movies where you actually have to think both during and after the movie, a good contrast to all braindead popcorn flicks. With that said, I'm not happy with the way TDKR turned out.

In my opinion The Prestige and Interstellar are his finest movies.

The movie was great.
....but not until that horrendous third act.

Honestly, after seeing this for a second time, it's essential to have multiple viewings to fully comprehend the movie's story. It got better for me, because there was so much to process during the first time watching it. It still has flaws, but nothing too bad.

The third act was exceptional, it really isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Watching the movie for the second time, I appreciated it more and understood the purpose of it.

The Third act was good! absolutely fine. My only concern was sound issues, great film.

The sound mixing was horrible...I missed a lot of dialogue due to the score and sound FX being too loud.

And then there is the plot hole: The present day humans needed intervention from the future to survive...So how did the future humans survive in the first place?
