Ivan Reitman Reveals Why He Won't Be Directing A Third GHOSTBUSTERS Movie

Rumour has it that Bridesmaids director Paul Feig will helm a Ghostbusters reboot with an all-female cast, but original filmmaker Ivan Reitman was attached to return for a time. Here, he explains why that's no longer the case and his involvement with the current iteration...

It appears as if we will no longer be getting a Ghostbusters movie continuing the story from the first two instalments as Paul Feig is developing a new story which some claim will reboot the franchise will an all-female cast. In a recent interview with Superhero Hype, Ivan Reitman talked more about why he decided to step away from Ghostbusters 3 and hand the reigns over to someone else.

"I am very involved. I’m a producer of the film. I wasn’t giving it all up. I suddenly felt that Ghostbusters didn’t necessarily need me as a director, at least I didn’t need to direct Ghostbusters, let me put it that way. Having done the other two and with the passing of Harold and with Bill Murray seeming disinterested being in it, I thought it was better for me just to produce it and to make sure we’re going to have the quality and style of what is appropriate for another version of that film. But the franchise could benefit from somebody else’s point of view. I’ve done it twice before and it will be great to get somebody else to lend a hand as well."

The original Ghostbusters celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, and fans of the first two movies have long been sceptical about both the necessity of a third one AND the recently revealed plans to possibly reboot. Either way, it seems like something that Sony are intent on making, so be sure to stay tuned to CBM for updates.

I want Ghostbusters 3. I just don't want it to be some half assed thrown together thing that the studio just throws out there just to throw it out there. I want a movie that actually feels like the other older movies but has a new story to tell that that doesn't just rehash what the older movies did. It would be great if it followed the path of the Ghostbusters extreme animated series where the older Ghostbusters passed the torch to a new generation and serve an administrative role or have retired.

An all female cast could be good, i guess. Depends on the casting though.

We already had an all-female Ghostbusters film that was hilarious!

It's called Nut Busters. I think Axel Braun directed it!

I liked the games on Xbox 360. I felt like that was a super fun adventure. I hope they can bring it back strong. Godzilla got a lot of love, why not Ghost Busters? I'll eat up some Ghost Busters stuff like.....

Eh Ramis passed and Murray isn't interested, the rest of the cast would be pointless with 2 already MIA. Just let it go down as a good couple movies and let it be. Back when Harold Ramis was trying to do it 3-4 years ago would've been the perfect time to do it. The moment is over. Just let it go.

My interest in this died along with Ramis. Just reboot it full of dick and fart jokes and let it flop so it'll die off.

At this point, just reboot.

just stop this. no more ghostbusters, no sequel no reboot. Let the Classics b classic. at this point without Ramis, its not going to be the same, and a reboot isnt the answer. Its over weve seen it, we dont need any more without it being the original 4

Ok, 1: scrap the movie in favour of a tv series. Plenty of great tv actors out therewho could take on the roles and it could open up the for whole other storylines. You dont need the original characters in the roles either, you can go next generation. That way you can pave the way for original characters cameo's or even have a permanent role for dan akroyd as a consultant for the GB's
2: Woody Harrelson should be a dead cert for the lead role.

Just make it another Ghostbuster branch that was sanctioned by the originals or have these be the new recruits after the originals retired there is zero reason for it to be a "reboot".

Ghostbusters was cool because of two things,Venkman and Slimer, but mostly it was down to Bill Murray.
Can't see the point of this new one at all.
