BOX OFFICE: JURASSIC WORLD Chews Up Pixar's INSIDE OUT As It Stays At #1 For Second Week

For the first time ever, a Pixar movie has not debuted at the North American box office at #1. Instead, Jurassic World has remained on top, but did it manage to take yet another of The Avengers' records? Hit the jump for all the latest details and numbers...

Are dinosaurs about to become the new superheroes? There's simply no stopping Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World as the movie has ended Pixar's long running #1 opening winning streak by staying on top for a second week in a row. Inside Out certainly hasn't suffered though as its $91 million haul marks the highest debut ever for an original title from the animation studio. It was still quite a bit behind Jurassic World's $102 million, a figure which keeps the latest instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise just shy of topping The Avengers' $103 million second week back in 2012.

Of course, if the movie ends up over-performing today, it could very well still top that (it's already beaten The Avengers by reaching $400 million in 11 days instead of 14 though). We'll have more specific numbers in regards to any more possible broken records tomorrow. With that haul, Jurassic World is rapidly closing in on $1 billion globally and is already the second highest grossing movie of 2015 after just over a week of release. It's going to be very interesting to see where the movie ultimately ends up sitting on the list of all-time highest grossing movies when all is said and done...

I saw this coming, as soon as they announced casting and start of production they got my money. I'm going right now too!

Inside out was a great movie. Not gonna lie it got a little dusty in the theater similar to what happened at the end of toy story 3. Definitely glad I took my niece and nephew to go see it.

Who would of thought the chubby guy from parks and rec would headline two of the biggest movies of the past 10 months. Good for him.

I'll be curious to see if JW earns itself a backlash or not. Right now it's still riding high as the somewhat surprising underdog to take the title... But without lasting affection from audiences, it'll eventually get lumped into the "awful" category like "Avatar" somehow earned.

Geez, imagine if Disney/Pixar waited another few weeks to release Inside Out? Imagine how much MORE money both films would've made. Crazy.

I didn't like Jurassic World all that much, but at this point I just want to see how high its box office is going to reach. NOBODY could've predicted how much of a monster hit it's become, so who knows where it'll end up at the end of the day. One thing's for sure though - dinosaurs are [frick]ing awesome.

"Don't you guys absolutely hate it when married couples bring their little whiny toddlers and young ones to the movies."

Depends on the movie, and the time you go. Inside Out on a weekend? Well, duh. That's just inevitable, and I can't blame anyone.

Mad Max at 11pm on a weekday, though? That's happened, and those parents should be arrested.

Chewtoy nobody I know thinks avatar is terrible who hadn't already formed that opinion five years ago. Any movie that holds the all time box office belt will be deemed overrated (like avatar, titanic, TDK) because so many ppl have seen them and the internet is full of haters who will type until their fingers fall off to try to get others to agree.

I had a feeling this movie wouldn't do well. I mean, y'know, for a Pixar movie.
It looks very unoriginal and uninteresting and cheap.
And the poster makes it look like an arthouse movie or something about a cool '60s musician.
All the kids wanna see, this year, is the Minions movie, from what I can tell.

I think jw was helped by inside out constantly being sold out. Ppl at my theater who couldn't get tickets for a particular time went to see jw instead.

Great for Pratt! Though "chews up" is a bit extreme when 100 million to 90 million. I'll go out on a limb and say "Dope" and "Spy" and "Entourage" got chewed up and spit out.

I don't get it. I really don't. Jurassic World is a paint-by-numbers movie, the fourth in the franchise, with an incredibly weak script, go-nowhere subplots, Williams themes are underused and the presentation of the dinosaurs has none of the majesty of the first film. How the hell is it making this much money?

As for Inside Out, I didn't even know there was a Pixar movie coming out.

"I had a feeling this movie wouldn't do well. I mean, y'know, for a Pixar movie."

Didn't expect Inside Out to start off this bad. Is Disney purposefully bombing their movies or something?"

Uh, you guys DO realize $91 million is a MASSIVE haul, right? And that Inside Out had the biggest opening for an original film EVER, right? Even beating out Avatar?

Well damn what happened to Avengers: Age of Ultron, didn't people on here say it would be bigger than Avengers and be #1 All time box office? Mostly everyone on here says it's a "GREAT" movie... I wonder what happened. Any suggestions?

@roguegendrift

Just wait until you have kids. I thought the same thing but once you're a parent you realize other parents aren't that annoyed because they've been there too. Now if its a an evening on a weekend I understand. But in the morning or afternoon you should go in understanding you're seeing a kids movie during the day so its something you'll have to put up with. Once you're a parent you'll learn just to tune it out.

Anyone who thinks inside out is under preforming needs to get their head out of their ass and stop posting dumb comments on the internet. The movie is killing it.

INSIDE OUT is definitely worth a watch. Sort of a cross between Herman's Head, Eternal Sunshine..., Epcot's Cranium Command, with a little sprinkle of Monsters Inc.'s elaborate world-building.

Also, JW's success is down to the dinosaur-sized hype and the monster marketing campaign.
You put that much money in and you're bound to get some back. And Chris Pratt in eyeliner doesn't hurt, I'm sure.
I've heard it's not too good, though. Figured as much. It ain't Speilberg, is it? And Terminator ain't Cameron. I'll go see all of these movies, but probably only once. I'm not excited about any of them.
This whole year has no exciting movies. Just lesser versions of classics.
It's the calm before the storm, though. Star Wars soon. Then all fvcking hades breaks loose in 2016 with a million and one exciting movies.
Even Marvel doesn't have anything exciting.
Sure, us geekly fellows and fellowettes were excited about Age of Ultron, but the GA weren't. The trailer made it look exactly the same as the first one.
And Ant-Man was a hard sell from the start with the GA and now they don't have Edgar, so... it's just not at all exciting.
And that cheap-assed FF makes me reminiscent for the old movies. Sure, they'll break even. But that'd probably only take a dozen ticket sales to do that.

Meanwhile the audience has a lot of money to spend on movies and the studios have a certain amount that they need to spend on marketing. So Everyone doived in with Jurassic World, because there is literally nothing else.

I mean Holy Shit. Furious 7 made how much? I f that doesn't tell you that the economy has grown to the point where folks have money to burn, I don't know what will.
Pitch fvcking Perfect 2 did well. No offense to that movie, but who in the hell saw that coming? Except for whatserface being in it. Who doesn't love that girl? I've loved her since she played Scott Pilgrim's sister. She's awesome.
And Mad Max! When I first saw a trailer for that it said that it was gonna be on "Limited release in selected theatres"! That soon changed, didn't it, now?

That's my 2-cents worth.
They shoulda probably given Star Wars the summer and it would've cleaned up. Is anyone gonna have any money left at Christmas? After vbuying Christmas presents and all that?

Shame about Tomorrowland, too. Did well for about a day and then some other skirt walked by. I think it was San Andreas or something. Tomorrowland deserved better.
