Speaking with Shock Til You Drop/Coming Soon, acclaimed director Steven Spielberg once again talks about development on Jurassic Park IV, which he will produce and Joe Johnston will direct. Spielberg says that the film is currently on the schedule, despite his busy promoting War Horse and Adventures Of Tintin while shooting the biopic Lincoln. He's also asked if the film will restart the franchise as previously rumored, saying that it's 'another boring secret'.

On the current status of Jurassic Park IV...
I haven't been active in the last year because I've been so busy obviously on 'War Horse,' 'Tintin' and now I'm currently shooting 'Lincoln,' but right now, it's on the schedule to bring out another 'Jurassic Park.

On whether or not the film will be a reboot...
It's just another boring secret. *chuckles*

Do you think a fourth Jurassic Park film should be made, or should the original trilogy be left alone? If another film is produced, should it be a reboot or should it pick up where the last film left off? Sound off your thoughts below in the usual place.

if anything, it needs to redeem itself from the 3rd one, and the second. but i wouldn't mind seeing another JP.

The survivors don't need to be brought back to the island. The dinosaurs can come to them somehow.

How can anyone want a reboot of JP? It was the only truly good one of the series, and you want to rehash it? Let's do a new movie, in a completely different direction. Trying to remake Jurassic Park would be like trying to remake Alien, Jaws, Indiana Jones, etc. Don't you dare, Hollywood. Don't you dare...

They should do a thing like Predators where they drop criminals/mercenaries/etc. onto the island to fight for survival...only instead of being a shatfest like Predators, make it good!

@zigggggy
I have read the book, and I'm aware of the differences. But they're not SO pronounced that a remake is warranted. If it were to adhere strictly to the book people would still consider it a knock off of the original, no matter how good it might be. Plus there's way too much chaos theory in the book, which really wouldn't capture the interest of the general audience. There was a reason they downgraded chaos theory to a quick conversation between Malcolm and Sattler in the jeep

@ Everyone who brings up the book.
Read both books. Loved them. But I feel the 1st and 2nd films were done great. I think he should just head in a new direction with a new cast. I can't see any else as Grant or Malcom.

as much as i love the original i feel like its been long enough for a reboot. Even though i think it won't come near the awesomeness of the first...

if the 3rd was better i wouldn't be for a reboot

i just hope its not all cgi. i hope they use animatronics for the majority

Agree with @LEE... I'd rather see a Turok movie. Leave JP alone. Or, if they do make a fourth, give us something new. I say "NO" to the original cast. New characters, new story. But still... Turok, FTW!

I agree with Captain Dusty, no reboot. Reboots are usually made to make the first movie look better with today's tech right? Well JP is to good to need that. They could somehow bring the dinosaurs to america or populated land like in Lost World.
Like maybe there's a secret group of scientists who originally worked on jurassic park and lost world and shit. Maybe they could have been sending highly skilled teams of hunters over there to trap, study, kill, kidnap all the little dinos like coppies (or whatever)and raptors. And along the way grab a couple eggs from all the other dinos while they explore. And lets say the scientists have been doing this for a few years or so. Studying dinos and killing them. But they have a very good amount stored somewhere since they've been "playing god" and creating so many from eggs and genes. And so far everything went great until some freak accident happened and they all escaped into the city.

That's just what i think should happen :)
I also think they should bring back Grant and Malcolm. The rest of the cast are kinda expendable to me. But if they could get this plot. With Grant and Malcolm that would be amazing.

They should set JP4 100 years in the future and on a moon base.

I think the next film will be an in-continuity reboot. I recall Joe Johnson said that the new film would begin with a recap of the last trilogy, then jump in to a totally new story. I also read that the new film will not be on the islands.

Heres an idea: a group of college kids on spring break take a boat to Site B for a cheap thrill. But their boat is sunk by a mysterious creature in the water and the survivors are stranded on the island. Cut-off from the rest of the world, the group will have to use their wits if any of them wish to get home alive.

As a die-hard Jurassic Park fan, any news about JPIV is good news to me. Even after suffering through two mediocre sequels, I'm just like 'bring it on'! I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers that crazy script from William Monahan that had a bunch of mini T-Rexes bred to obey commands like domesticated dogs.

It's interesting how. There talking about why would they go back to the island?....but actually the original talks were for the dinosaurs to be equiped with military tech like guns and lasers and supposely they would escape to America or where ever.

No interest, The concept was novel back in the 90s because people wanted to see CGI dinosaurs. Now we see them in commercials for Taco Bell. Pass.
