GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS "Honest Trailer" Pokes Fun At The Movie's Dumb Humans And Boring Plot

The "Honest Trailer" for Godzilla: King of the Monsters has arrived and, well, it does a pretty great (and hilarious) job of summing up the underwhelming monster movie. Check it out after the jump...

Godzilla: King of the Monsters disappointed at the box office and wasn't exactly a hit with critics either. While some fans appreciated the massive monster battles, the plot was paper thin and the cast was mostly wasted. That's something this hilarious "Honest Trailer" for the sequel points out as it delves into some of its sillier aspects.

As well as taking aim at the weird family dynamics of the movie's leads, this trailer also talks about how King of the Monsters overcompensated for the lack of action in the first instalment of the franchise, not to mention the terrible dialogue and dodgy science which plagued this adventure. However, their point about the murky visuals are particularly on point!

Even if you loved the movie, it's hard not to have fun with this trailer and they make some valid observations (like how Godzilla vs. Kong is coming no matter how people responded to this chapter).

Murky is right. Would one action sequence in clear daylight kill them? Darkness, smoke, snow, dust, endless rain...Let me see the monsters!

@Indoorsman - I disagree, this film was meant to portray these monsters as huge colossal titans. They lit the film as if it had natural lighting so it made you feel like you were there with the humans. The Kaiju's were portrayed like gods and monsters of various legends that can bring storms, calamity, and weather changing effects to any place they go to similar to what Ghidorah did in this film.

I pity those who didn't see it in theaters as the reduced screen size, "wide screen format" on home video, and surround sound on home tv significantly reduces the experience. I am a huge fan of kaiju fans and think this is the "best kaiju" ensemble film to date!

@Indoorsman @malesia012 - Well you both just don’t get it. Kong Skull Island and Godzilla: King of Monsters are very different films with different purposes. Kong Skull Island is an action adventure set in the jungle, while Godzilla King of Monsters is a disaster movie. That’s why the monsters in both films are visually portrayed differently. Skull Island monsters are just overgrown animals that look and move similar to real animals. King of Monster Kaijus are like mutated legendary pokemons that have superpowers. It makes no sense for King of Monsters to visually look like Kong Skull Island when their monsters differ so much. The kaijus in king of monsters literally cause natural disasters like thunderstorms, typhoons, and gusts by just moving and the Skull island monsters don't. That's why kong can be shown more clearly and the kaijus in king of monsters can't.

@mastakilla39 - Please don't say we don't get it. Just because we don't like something doesn't mean we don't understand it. The monsters bring storms wherever they go. Got it.

What I'm saying is I would rather they had done away with that narrative device so that I could tell what the hell was happening.

We disagree. It's ok.

this movie was only second to Endgame in terms of "holy f*cking sh*t that's awesome" this year, for me at least. "boring humans". watch every Godzilla movie ever, the humans don't matter at all most of the time, they're just a vehicle to get the kaiju action going. the exception to this rule is, of course, the original and 2016's Shin Godzilla, which in many aspects is sort of an spiritual successor to that one.

@Spidey91 - Currently in a deployed environment and Endgame has been our most watched movie followed by Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Three guesses which movie nobody watches, and yes, we have a copy.

I could have liked the movie if the humans and the human plot wasn't so bad. It literally pulled me out of the movie and had me throwing my hands up in the air with how stupid it was. Doesn't even need to be interesting just be competent. It was unrealistically stupid and distracted me too much.

I was ready to really like this movie, but... the spark just wasn't there. Didn't care for the humans too much, sadly didn't care too much for the creatures either. Something just didn't click.

My single favourite thing in the movie was the underwater city/temple. "This is it", I thought, "this is the background mythology element that'll keep invested." - and then they blew it up in the next scene.

"The Real Alpha is Corporate Inertia"

This explains so much about the current state of the box office.

Come on who really watches a Godzilla movie for the humans? The first one they said it was good but not enough Godzilla now this one too much Godzilla can't have it both ways. I loved the movie I'm looking forward to he and Kong tearing it up.

I'm not one to complain that movies have human characters prevalent in stories focused on larger than life creatures, but THESE human characters were definitely the exception to that rule

I should never fall asleep in a Godzilla movie but there we were.

People who thought this film was anything less than awesome either saw the wrong film or went into a Godzilla movie not wanting a Godzilla movie
