THE GOOD:
Pretty much everything. And I'm not joking. On a technical level its truly flawless. The score, the special effects (most of which is practical btw), the direction, and cinematography are all immersive and perfect. The characters are heartfelt, emotionally engaging, and multi-dimensional. You'll actually feel something for these characters. This is only bolstered by the acting - which too is gripping and powerful. While the story may not be as enigmatic as, let's say 2001 A Space Odyssey, it nonetheless remains layered and deep. Christopher Nolan proves once again why he is the greatest director currently working in Hollywood - in my mind it isn't even an argument anymore. No other director is bringing this level of precision to both the storytelling and mise en scène in films; regardless if they are thrillers, sci-fi, or superheroes.
THE BAD:
Pretty much nothing. Its slow paced at times but never boring. However if you aren't a fan of science-fiction films that transcend the typical action or horror sub-genres, than this isn't the movie for you. Basically if you like 2001 A Space Odyssey you'll love this, if you don't, you'll hate it. And in that way I can understand why some critics and audiences may not like it - because its simply not for everyone.
IN SUMMARY:
Interstellar was a beautiful film. Narratively immersive and cinematic in the purest sense. Its perhaps one of my favourite movies of the last decade. But its not a movie for everyone, its very much a layered character study of humanity...with a dash quantum physics.
RATING: A+ (9.5/10)
