Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Twentieth Century Fox has announced that the newest Planet of The Apes prequel will be released on June 24, 2011. The name of the movie is Rise of the Apes. Heres are the details about the technology that will be used, as well as some plot points...

"The studio will partner with WETA Digital to employ the groundbreaking technologies developed for Avatar, rendering photo-realistic apes rather than costumed actors. Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) will direct from a screenplay by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa."

"Rise of the Apes is set in present day San Francisco where man’s experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence of apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark will produce."

...The originals were great and classic. The Tim Burton remake, not so much. Hopefully this one will keep the spirit of the originals, with some modern updates.

I'm still against this, since Tim Burton's last remake because the original was a classic so I'm a little sketchy about this. I'll have to wait and see.

lmaoooo...tea you need to find apes with boobs.
As for this "prequel"...im gonna have to say no thanks. The Markie mark/Tim Burton edition left a bad taste in my mouth and will just stick with the originals. Apart from CBMS is there anything original coming out of hollyweird?

Rise of the Apes, being a loose remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, actually feels to me to at least be an innovative approach rather than remaking the original movie yet again. On the surface it sounds like it has an opportunity to retain elements from the original series while taking things in a different direction.

Yes, I'm pimping EM again, but if anyone wants to read more about the plot, head over to my Planet of the Apes page at www.earthsmightiest.com/fansites/planetoftheapes.

Burton's remake sucked. I hope like hell this is much better. Nothing will touch the original anyway.

either way this is a red box rental for me. loved the originals, remake was so so. hollywood just loves overkilling franchises huh? some films and franchises should simply be left alone. soon we will be seeing a scarface prequel, lol. a goodfellas sequel, lol. and soon very soon a lord of the rings reboot with 3d technology, lol.

I don't like how they are saying that the humans created the smart apes, I liked the idea of them evolving over time in the absence of humans.
I also hope they don't go and say that the Apes wiped out mankind, I think they should stick to the original idea of humans blowing up themselves.

I'll check it out but it looks like the studio is trying to make something out of nothing.

Anil brings up a really good point. The ending of the last one left the possibility of a sequel wide open. I happen to be in the minority here (judging by how many mbrs disliked the Burton version), but I enjoyed the Burton take on the apes and would like to see where they would take it from where they left off. But I also like the mythology of the series and I am happy to get any ape movie as is ...

I'm a little curious about this one myself. It could actually prove to be interesting and good.
