POWER RANGERS Reboot Gets A Release Date And Synopsis

POWER RANGERS Reboot Gets A Release Date And Synopsis

The news that the Power Rangers franchise is being rebooted was met with a mixed response, with many wondering whether there's room for the fairly dated characters in today's world.

Since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers launched over two decades ago, the series has been in almost continuous production, with merchandise still selling well and a loyal fanbase in place. However, they no longer have anywhere near the same level of popularity, but a movie like this however could potentially move them right back into being the huge brand they used to be. That's what Lionsgate are banking on anyway, as they have now set a release date of July 22nd, 2016. It was recently revealed that Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (who are credited somewhat controversially for X-Men: First Class) will pen the movie based on a story by Transformers' Roberto Orci. July 2016 is a busy month, with new Bourne and Planet of the Apes movies set to open alongside Angry Birds, Ice Age 5, The BFG and more. What do you guys think?

From a story by Executive Producer Roberto Orci (TRANSFORMERS, STAR TREK, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2) and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, THOR) comes a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.

If they choose Michael Bay as director I'm gonna [frick]ing kill everyone at Lionsgate.

Power Rangers are my favorite superheroes ever (yeah, they made my childhood awesome even though they've always been dorky as hell) so I'd get really really mad if they receive the Transformers/Ninja Turtles treatment.

Matthew Vaughn would be perfect though. The tone that he gave X-men: First Class would really fit a Power Rangers big screen reboot.

They better have a joke about exploding grass in that movie.

I'm waiting on the "destroy my childhood" comments and stuff.

Power Rangers was cheesy as [frick] just like the original TMNT cartoon and the G1 transformers. So anything they do would be an improvement

@AgentZero Power Rangers RPM had plenty of jokes about the cheesiness of the show. Exploding grass, forced one liners and more.

And by the way, I'm okay for them to improve on the cheesiness, just don't do it in such a horrible way (which probably makes it worse and dull) like the new TMNT film.

Can power rangers survive? They're "dated?" In a world with THE AVENGERS it's an understandable question. However, the real question is: can the even MORE DATED superman and batman even stay relevant in that same world????

This is seriously the one franchise that Michael Bay would be perfect to direct... the freaken grass would explode. The cheesiness, then nostalgia factor and the bad dialogue they are all perfect for Michael Bay this is the one series that does not need to be revamped gritty or anything near that at worst it will end up like Transformers 1 at best it will be a way more humourous version of GOTG which would be perfect. Maybe involve a Chinese fight choreographer too, market it heavily for China and Japan and BOOM billion dollar franchise. Get David Frank involved as the old leader of the previous generation of Power Rangers and get Laurence Fishbourne as Zordon and Andy Serkis as the robot which I can't remember the name too and keep it as cheesy as the original and maybe add more cheesy power ballad, power 80's arena rock/metal and it will be perfect.
