POWER RANGERS Reboot Gets A Release Date And Synopsis
The news that the Power Rangers franchise is being rebooted was met with a mixed response, with many wondering whether there's room for the fairly dated characters in today's world.
Since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers launched over two decades ago, the series has been in almost continuous production, with merchandise still selling well and a loyal fanbase in place. However, they no longer have anywhere near the same level of popularity, but a movie like this however could potentially move them right back into being the huge brand they used to be. That's what Lionsgate are banking on anyway, as they have now set a release date of July 22nd, 2016. It was recently revealed that Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (who are credited somewhat controversially for X-Men: First Class) will pen the movie based on a story by Transformers' Roberto Orci. July 2016 is a busy month, with new Bourne and Planet of the Apes movies set to open alongside Angry Birds, Ice Age 5, The BFG and more. What do you guys think?
From a story by Executive Producer Roberto Orci (TRANSFORMERS, STAR TREK, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2) and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, THOR) comes a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.
