There's a new law enforcer in town and he's half man, half machine! From the director of Total Recall and Basic Instinct comes a "sci-fi fantasy with sleek, high-powered drive" (Time) about an indestructible high-tech policeman who dishes out justice at every turn! When a good cop (Peter Weller) gets blown away by some ruthless criminals, innovative scientists and doctors are able to piece him back together as an unstoppable crime-fighting cyborg called "RoboCop." Impervious to bullets and bombs, and equipped with high-tech weaponry, RoboCop quickly makes a name for himself by cleaning up the crime-ridden streets of violence-ravaged Detroit. But despite his new, hardened exterior, RoboCop is tormented by scraps of memory of his former life, and relives vivid nightmares of his own death at the hands of the vicious killers. Now he is out to seek more than justice...he wants revenge!

Actors: Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Dan O'Herlihy, Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith
Directors: Paul Verhoeven * Writers: Edward Neumeier, Michael Miner

Robocop is no masterpiece. There's some great action, music, and one-liners, but there's a lot of garbage that (in lieu of "hasn't aged well") wasn't good in the first place.

The black goon's laugh, and really all of the cronies working with Boddicker.
Miguel Ferrer has turned to voice-acting for a reason... although his lines would have been stupid-sounding either way.

So a lot of it is obvious dark comedy and satire, and that's fine, but it just didn't balance well with the serious themes, and there's very little room for any emotional depth, apart from Murphy's moments by himself or towards the end.

I'm not for the reboot, but I can understand how it COULD be better (but likely won't be).

I dunno. I have to admit, I was against the reboot until I watched the previews. It seems as if they are dealing with modern day issues and may end up making a meaningful film. Besides... Batman is in it. How can it be bad? Has Michael Keaton ever made a bad film?I mean... before 1996...?

Mr. Mom was awesome.

Try remaking a movie that actually needs a remake.
They should have done an all new robocop and Set it 50
years after the original with All new characters.

I don't think anyone actually said they WANTED a remake, it's more of "we'll tolerate it".
I don't plan on watching it unless I'm bored, which is likely to happen, but anyway, it's like the third Paul Verhoeven movie to get remade. He might not be the BEST director, but he's done some outstanding work.
It isn't on the same level as the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Let (the Right One) Me In, or Oldboy, as it's as old as me.... but it really is just expensive fan-fic.
