MGM Looking At Chris Pine For Robocop?

According to Twitchfilm, who have been on point with their Oldboy scoops recently, the Star Trek actor is MGM's first choice for the role that Peter Weller made famous in Paul Verhovan's original..

Haven't heard too much on this remake since Jose Padilha was announced as director. Apparently the script was going through a few changes/redo's but it didn't seem that MGM had anyone in mind for the role of Murphy, the "murdered" cop resurrected as the Future Of law Enforcement. Now Twitchfilm have an update on who the studio may be looking at..

Does the world want a younger, prettier Robocop? Apparently MGM does as Twitch has learned that the Star Trek actor is the studio’s top choice to take the lead in the upcoming reboot of the scifi franchise. There is no word as to whether director Jose Padilha agrees with the selection and the offer has not yet gone out but we’re told Pine currently tops the MGM casting list.

So even if this is accurate it's very early days. Pine will be shooting J.J Abrams' Star Trek sequel near the end of the year but apparently his slate is clear after that. What would you think of him as our new Robocop if it were to transpire?
