MGM Looking At Chris Pine For Robocop?

MGM Looking At Chris Pine For Robocop?

According to Twitchfilm, who have been on point with their Oldboy scoops recently, the Star Trek actor is MGM's first choice for the role that Peter Weller made famous in Paul Verhovan's original..

Haven't heard too much on this remake since Jose Padilha was announced as director. Apparently the script was going through a few changes/redo's but it didn't seem that MGM had anyone in mind for the role of Murphy, the "murdered" cop resurrected as the Future Of law Enforcement. Now Twitchfilm have an update on who the studio may be looking at..

Does the world want a younger, prettier Robocop? Apparently MGM does as Twitch has learned that the Star Trek actor is the studio’s top choice to take the lead in the upcoming reboot of the scifi franchise. There is no word as to whether director Jose Padilha agrees with the selection and the offer has not yet gone out but we’re told Pine currently tops the MGM casting list.

So even if this is accurate it's very early days. Pine will be shooting J.J Abrams' Star Trek sequel near the end of the year but apparently his slate is clear after that. What would you think of him as our new Robocop if it were to transpire?

I don't care who plays Murphy as long as they redesign that clunky awful looking suit design from the original. Make it much more sleak and android looking.

I don't think he's that young.Weller was about 39 when Robocop came out and Pine is currently 31.About 8 years younger.

But look at the other actors they were considering.Keanu Reeves(47), Johnny Depp(48) and Tom Cruise(49).

I think those guys are too old.

What are you guys smoking? Chris Pine would only be 8 years younger than Peter Weller if they started shooting now!

taz@ You got there a second before me.
Besides Pine has the right look for Robo. He's like a pretty Weller.

This is one of those rare characters who NEEDS a totally wooden actor to pull it off.

A Keanu Reeves, or a Hayden Christensen, or a Paul Walker.

Pine doing this would be total waste. He's got too much energy to pull off a mostly-lifeless automaton.

"ROUTH" Brandon Routh is just what this role needs. He has no charisma and delivers ever line as if he is dead, perfect for ROBOCOP. He has the right amount of wooden-ness to do it justice!

The people who could even vaguely think Chris Pine can play Robocop are clients of the drug factory seen in the first film.

I doubt we'll ever see him as Cyclops if he accepts this role. Thanks to SuperDude001 for the pic.

I can see Pyne pulling off the completely human cop aspect before he gets shot up (provided they're still going with that). The problem with the latter half is I never really felt all the sympathetic about the emotionless cyborg he becomes in the original. I don't have a problem with a character who can't EXPRESS emotion, I have a problem with a character who can't FEEL anything.
