Could we actually see Quentin Tarantino take the helm of a Star Trek movie? The director has reportedly pitched an idea to Paramount Pictures and J.J. Abrams, who are currently assembling a writers room.

Well, I think it's safe to say nobody saw this coming.

According to Deadline, Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight, Kill Bill) has come up with a great idea for a new Star Trek movie at Paramount, and has shared
the details with J.J. Abrams. Apparently, the plan is to assemble a writers room who will work on Tarantino's pitch before getting to work on the project.  

If it all works out, Tarantino might direct, with Abrams producing.

Tarantino has spoken about his love for the Star Trek franchise in the past, but nobody really believed that he'd ever actually take a journey to the final frontier. It doesn't sound like anything is set in stone here, but it's certainly going to be very interesting to see how the situation develops.

Whilst there is no denying a Tarantino Star Trek would be interesting, he is not really what the franchise needs.

Tarantino has built an entire career out of looking backwards, creating nostalgia filled homages to films of yesteryear - however Star Trek really needs to start looking Forward, to stop giving us pre-Kirk prequels and reboots, and to finally go where no one has gone before - post Voyager.

Star Trek Discovery is the closest they have managed, with lots of cool new technology and design, however it is still burdened by an unnecessary chronology which anchors it pre-Kirk for no beneficial reason.

I agree about all the pre-Kirk stuff. Been wanting to see a new series picking up where Voyager left off for a while now. Want to see Geordi La Forge as the captain, a time displaced Spock played by Quinto, and The Doctor from Voyager. Since the doctor was a hologram they can use the same actor but have him play an all new character.

@528491 - Trek and Star Wars need a visionary new take and have it far from the old timelines. Unfortunately, decent/risky/new sci-fi rarely sells (and yes, I am aware that Star Wars isn’t really sci-fi).

Tarantino is one of my favorite directors of all time. But a Tarantino-directed Star Trek movie sounds more than a little strange. Especially since he's only got a precious few films remaining before he retires after 10, as he's gone on record saying is his plan
