Zachary Quinto talks Star Trek 2

Quinto says the script is in progress, but there's "nothing official."

Here's the info:

While on the set of the upcoming fourth season of NBC's Heroes, IGN's own Eric Goldman caught up with Sylar himself, Zachary Quinto, to discuss his turn as Spock in the planned sequel to this summer's blockbuster Star Trek.

"Nothing official. I know that J.J. and Damon and Bob and Alex are working on the script right now. And I think that's a process that will take them awhile. And I think they're really smart and they're doing it on their own terms as much as they can, so we'll go back to work when they tell us to, basically."

Hopefully we will get some official news soon!

Ozy out.

teabag: And say no to Diesel as well ;)

I hope they get a better villain this time. Bana gave a good performance, but the villain wasn't written very well, and was pretty 2-dimensional.

ya he didnt have much depth they need a character that is complex and just straight up evil

I also want them to keep the same light-hearted tone the first had. It had the perfect balance of humor, action, and suspense. They shouldn't make the sequel dark.

The first one had the same humor and suspense of the original TV series...JJ has captured the heart of Trek on the big screen...Pretty amazing fete if ya ask me!

The new actor's seemed to be channeling Nimoy and company!
Keep that heart pumping at the same beat JJ, on into the future! FANTASTIC!

Quinto was the best thing about Star Trek 2009. I loved the movie although I didn't expect to. I am a long time Star Trek fan and I was afraid the writers and JJ wouldn't "understand" its nuances. No one else could have played Spock except Quinto. I wasn't even that loyal a fan of "Heroes" when I heard thre would be a new movie but I immediately knew he was the only choice for Spock. JJ, Orci, and Kurtzman succeeded beyond my wildest dreams in many ways but nothing would have mattered if they had cast the wrong Spock.

Since the writers did a good job with the first movie, I would trust them with the second. I will say that plot wasn't the strong point of the first movie but it probably was what it had to be. Characterization was what it was all about. I hope they continue that. As far as Mudd, Khan and all the other reincarnation of previous Star Trek story lines, I guess nostalgia is part of what it is all about. I like SciFi as a genre so I would be interested in new stories incorporating themes based on new scientific knowledge. It is still about the survival of the human species (as well as Vulcans, Romulans etc) and that is pretty dramatic as a plot device. I don't like fantasy so, please, no Jar Jar Binks.

As long as the cast stays the same and the characterization continues to be developed, I will live with a nostalgic reincarnation of an old plot line.
