CONFIRMED (Again!): Disney Working On Standalone STAR WARS Movies

We've had this particular bit of news confirmed by various outlets and even those working on them, but at an annual shareholders meeting in Phoenix today, Disney themselves have said that they are indeed moving ahead with "some standalone movies" for Star Wars.

This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, but it will surely act as a relief of sorts for those of you sick of the barrage of conflicting reports and rumours. While no specific names were mentioned, Disney CEO Bob Iger did confirm that the studio is moving ahead with a number of standalone movies based in the Star Wars universe. Below is the reports from the Associated Press.

PHOENIX (AP) — Star Wars fans have more than just Episodes 7, 8 and 9 to look forward to.

Disney CEO Bob Iger said at the annual shareholders meeting in Phoenix on Wednesday that the company is developing "some standalone movies" featuring Star Wars characters.

The news is likely to set off a new round of speculation about what's in store for the Lucasfilm franchise. The buzz has been at fever pitch levels since The Walt Disney Co. said in October it was acquiring the studio for $4 billion.

Iger didn't say which characters might be featured in the standalone films. Some Star Wars characters such as bounty hunter Boba Fett have been given bigger treatments in comic books.

So there you have it! Expect the NEXT confirmation to hopefully come in the form of a press release and details on which character will be the first to get their own solo spin-off movie. Who are you keeping your fingers crossed for? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!
