Daisy Ridley tried to keep it together after watching her first screening of a finished cut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens but couldn't quite accomplish the feat. “I came out [after the movie] and was like, ‘Yeah, I’m cool, and then in the car I was like [makes a crying face/noises] the whole way, and then the whole way home — a 10-hour journey. It’s the first time I’ve ever really seen myself do something, so I was quite overwhelmed." Ridley also touched on the importance of having a female protagonist, front-and-center in a big, sci-fi epic. "It’s really exciting. The way I think about it is, if I had a little sister I would be so pleased for her to see the film."
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens 30 years after the events of The Return of the Jedi. Luke Skywalker has gone into seclusion and the remnants of the Galactic Empire are alive and well in the new guise of the First Order. Many of the heroes from the original trilogy such as Han Solo, Princess Leia, C-3PO and Chewbacca continue fighting as members of the Resistance. Joining them are new allies, Poe Dameron, Finn, Rey and BB-8. They'll have their hands full against the powerful forces of the First Order which count Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma among its members.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in North American theaters on December 18th. The film has run time of 2hrs and 15 minutes.
