Don't Expect To See Liam Neeson Return As 'Qui-Gon Jinn' In STAR WARS EPISODE VII

I'm pretty sure that none of us expected to see Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon Jinn make a return in Star Wars Episode VII, but the Batman Begins actor talks about the possibility of that one day happening and reveals that he would reprise the role if asked. Hit the jump to watch the video...

HeyUGuys recently had the chance to catch up with Liam Neeson to chat about his new movie, A Walk Among The Tombstones. Obviously, he won't be back for Star Wars Episode VII (and as much as he'd like to play Ra's Al Ghul again, that's not gonna happen), but the actor did reveal that he would always be open to it if offered the chance as you can see in the video interview below. 


Personally, I would be shocked if there's any sort of reference to the prequels in Star Wars Episode VII or any other future movie in the franchise. While Qui-Gon Jinn could return as a force ghost, it's difficult to imagine a scenario where and why that could possibly happen. Of course, the character quickly became a fan-favourite after his introduction in The Phantom Menace, so how about a spin-off somewhere down the line. We'll have to wait and see. What do you think?

No real need to reference the prequels in any way. That'll keep the die-hard fans happy without taking away from the story.

I actually liked all the Jedi stuff in the prequels, just hated how the handled Anakin and Padme. (And Jar Jar obv.)

Canonically speaking, he could only return as a voice. In the third last episode of Clone Wars, it's revealed that he'd begun training to retain his identity after death but didn't finish it due being...you know...stabbed. So he can project his voice and manipulate the environment to an extent but he can't manifest a form the way Yoda, Ben and Anakin can (Anakin only being able to do it because of Force connection and with help).

KotOR (a video-game, yes) made use of force-ghosts with Sith Lords that had been alive long before the story took place.

It was one of the most ill-conceived aspects of an otherwise fantastic classic. It could happen, but we'll hope it doesn't.

Liam Neeson's such a nice guy. He's a great actor who says "yes" to pretty much everything, and as a result, turns out to be one of the only things good about ____ movie.

The Jedi in the prequels were virgin priests with ESP. They suck ass. And in VII Luke has apparently saved his Jedi virginity as well.

@marvel72 The saber duels in the prequels were shit too. The CG sabers were not as cool as the hand painted ones in the originals. They are like fluorescent lights. Nothing cool about that. The saber sounds were drowned out by John Williams blaring Harry Potter music.
The fights themselves were dance routines that have become common in movies today. At no time did a saber duel feel like a fight in the prequels.

I think it would be cool to see a place of light, much like the cave in Empire Strikes Back, but the exact opposite. Some place Luke Skywalker could find in his travels. You could have Yoda and Qui-Gon reveal necessary information to Luke about these Sith Inquistors.

I'd like him back, for something like this.

The place I mentioned could be really powerful with the light side of the force, and only in that place, could powerful Jedi reappear in their old forms and retain their identity there. They couldn't go anywhere else, just there. Yoda, Qui-gon and maybe even Ewan McGregor's Obi-wan.

The episodes Phantom Menace, and Attack of the Clones weren't good, but Revenge of the Sith is one of the best Star Wars movies.

And the prequels sucked. Only one character worth a shit (looking at you Obi), no suspense (I knew what was going to happen to that shitty acted Anniken), and my god were they boring ("The kids today want more senate" said nobody ever).

I recently watched the whole batch of Star Wars films, and while I still think the prequels are awful, they're not quite as awful as I thought they were when I first saw them.

When I first saw them, the disappointment that they weren't as good as the first trilogy weighed heavily in my judgement. But now that the heat of that is over and done with, as movies in and of themselves, they're passable and do in fact make a decent-enough continuous story with the "proper" Star Wars films.

When you watch them all in a series, the marked difference in atmosphere between the "Roaring Twenties" vibe of the art direction in the prequels, and the rather gloomier "Empire" vibe of the trilogy, is quite noticeable and works quite well.

In fact, disregarding the execrable scripts and the mostly poor acting (apart from McGregor, who's so obviously enjoying himself - "whee, I'm in Star Wars" - that he's one solid anchor in all the prequels), the art design of the prequels alone almost makes them stand up pretty well as visual spectacles.

Almost.

But they'll always be a horribly dropped ball, and a black mark on Lucas' legacy. What the hell he was thinking - and what the hell the people he worked with were thinking not to stand up to him and say "George, this is crap" - I don't know.
