The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that George Lucas is planning to donate the majority of the $4 billion fortune that Disney are paying him for LucasFilm to good causes. "George Lucas has expressed his intention, in the event the deal closes, to donate the majority of the proceeds to his philanthropic endeavors," a spokesperson told the site. It's not clear where exactly the money will end up (it's thought that it will mostly go to causes which focus primarily on educational issues), but the writer and director is well known for his substantial donations to causes such as the Film Foundation, Stand Up To Cancer and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. "For 41 years, the majority of my time and money has been put into the company," Lucas said in a statement Wednesday. As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity to devote more time and resources to philanthropy."

I know the real reason Disney bought Lucasfilms. They want to put Howard the Duck into the Avengers 2. Howard the Duck will tie in The Avengers and GOTG. Let's see if my prediction comes true. And good for him most people would just keep it and be greedy.

People are going to say "who cares, he's already rich and doesn't need the money" and all kinds of other such things.

Bottom line, he's going to give away billions in his lifetime to worthy causes and then half of whatever he has left upon his death as per the pledge he's already made.

That's a lot more than I've ever done. Before criticizing, ask yourself... what have you done.

He's earned my respect as a man.

He's going out like a class act. Atta boy, George. You may have tarnished your legacy, but it's good to see your money from this deal go to a worthy cause.

Two days ago Star Wars (OT) was nothing but a fond childhood memory, not registering anywhere near my radar. Now, its the only thing on my radar. I'm way too old to be this excited, how is this even possible.

btw, i can't be the only one that sees a character arc like darth vader here do i?

a man who was great once (original trilogy), went over to the dark side (prequel trilogy), and then redeemed himself in his last days (return of the jedi).
