Oscar Isaac On STAR WARS, Stormtroopers, & Working With The Original Cast

Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) is an actor we shall be seeing a lot of over the next while, but his most anticipated movie 'round these parts is definitely Star Wars: Episode VII. Find out what he has to say about his still unannounced role after the jump.

Since his great turn in Inside Llewyn Davis, Oscar Isaac has seen his Hollywood profile raised considerably. He's received critical acclaim for his work in the likes of the Two Faces of January and the upcoming A Most Violent Year, but the role everyone is most excited about is whoever the heck he'll be playing in J.J. Abrams' currently shooting Star Wars flick. Obviously he doesn't go into any detail on that (the rumour is he'll be playing the new owner of Han Solo's iconic ship the Millennium Falcon), but when asked if he's had any interactions with the original Star Wars trio of Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill on or off-screen, he provides an interesting response.

"Yeah, I have. Both. They’re such funny people. Carrie is hilarious and doing such cool work. Harrison is back. He went on hiatus for a little while, but he’s 150 percent back. It’s pretty amazing to see him bounce back. He looks incredible. Everyone’s having a really good time. J.J. sets that tone. There’s a lot of enthusiasm and it’s being done with a lot of heart. There’s nothing cynical about the way we’re doing this. Even the in way he’s shooting it—he’s shooting on film and actually building the sets, so you’ve got hundreds of Stormtroopers or whatever, and hundreds of extras and all the ships. You actually see it. It’s all real. Everyone can interact with the world."

So at the very least, we know his character will share scenes with Han, Luke and Leia. Isaac is then asked if this new film will maintain some of the cheesiness of the previous ones, and jokes that he's constantly looking for the cheesiest lines to harken back to the originals. But even if things will be taken a bit more seriously this time, the actor definitely suggests it won't get too serious. "J.J.’s been loosening it up a little bit and trying to make it alive and energized. It’s not formal. They’re messy, energized people. We’ve all intentionally tried to do that. Just make it a little more fiery and messy." You can check out the interview in full at the link below.

I wonder who Oscar Isaac is really playing?

If it's true that he will be the new owner of the Millennium Falcon then that's cool.

This movie will change the way they make movies. There will still be CG, but I think after Episode VII and we see what it really looks like, it's going to be amazing. I think this movie will be everyone's second favorite, next to Empire Strikes Back.

The prequels also had lots of extras, real sets, locations and props and the first one was shot on film. Just saying...
