Star Wars will be released on Blu-ray for the first time next week in the US, (it's already out in the UK and Ireland) but along with the release comes more of George Lucas' infamous tweaking and tinkering as he updates and adds scenes and special effects to certain parts of his movies. This won't be the first time of course. For previous DVD releases Lucas has done the same, the most fan blasted moment so far being the "Greedo shoots first" moment from the first
Star Wars. Something done to tone down Han Solo's ruthlessness in an effort to make the movie more kid friendly. Many of the other tweaks were fine -added special effects, clearing up the picture etc - were generally accepted even though they were still viewed as a bit unnecessary.
Now we have a similar situation with the Blu-ray releases. Only instead of Greedo shooting first we have an added "NOOOOOOOO" to the Darth Vader redemption scene towards the end of
Return Of The Jedi. This, and to a lesser extent the fact that Obi Wan Kenobi now sounds like a cage dancer from The Blue Oyster in the scene in which he scares off the Sand People, have fans up in arms. But there are a few other things, the Ewoks getting some snazzy new CG eyelids for example, that have gone down a bit better.
So there are a few ways you can look at this. Are you against all changes or just the ones that LESSEN the quality of the originals? Or do you embrace any and all changes Lucas wants to make to his own movies? Do you not care one way or the other? Vote below.
The video features the "NOOOO" scene, but you can access the rest of the altered scenes from it too
