STAR WARS: Daisy Ridley Briefly Comments On Her Potential Future As Rey Following The Sequel Trilogy

Star Wars sequels actress Daisy Ridley has addressed the possibility of returning as Rey Skywalker following The Rise of Skywalker, and it certainly doesn't sound like the actress is against the idea...

Despite some questionable creative decisions, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi were pretty solid movies. The Rise of Skywalker, however, sent the Star Wars franchise plummeting off a cliff in terms of quality, and it's no wonder the franchise has since taken a break from the big screen!

It felt like filmmaker J.J. Abrams threw everything at the wall to see what would stick, and attempts to appease fans upset by Rian Johnson's move from what they had hoped for from this sequel trilogy resulted in a story that made no one happy. By the time all was said and done, Rey, revealed to be Emperor Palpatine's grandaughter, had taken the "Skywalker" name and appeared to have plans for a new Jedi Order (which we're assuming would have included Finn after those big teases).

So far, Lucasfilm has avoided telling stories set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, and actress Daisy Ridley had a short, to the point response when asked if she could return as Rey one day.

Smiling, she said (via SFFGazette.com): "I'll always be Rey."

This can be taken one of two ways. Either Ridley is open to returning as the character should the opportunity present itself or, despite being well aware that Rey is a role she'll always be associated with, the actress isn't looking to field constant questions about a return. We'd bet on a mixture of both, and no one can blame her for wanting to move on and be known for more than just Star Wars.

Hopefully, we will get to see what became of Rey and company somewhere down the line as there are definitely more stories to be told. For now, at least, it doesn't appear to be a priority at Lucasfilm.

@Lostcause - actually, no joking, I'd love a Disney+ series with Rey post the Skywalker trilogy that basically starts a whole new chapter in her Legacy that has absolutely nothing to do with any previous Star Wars content. A new story, a new direction for her... almost like her Obi Wan Kenobi series without having to wait decades, or how Anakins story was very different from his time as Vader. I want a second, very tonally different arc for her. Get creative. Maybe have her initial journey after the sequel trilogy find her exploring the unknown sectors of space and have her get into some crazy experimental shit like in the final episodes of Rebels when Ezra found that ancient temple that allowed him to see through time. And stuff like when Anakin met the Father, Son and Daughter who were connected to the Force. Have her get into so trippy experimental shit. And maybe bring a few new friends we get to know along the way, like a new Droid and a alien buddy, just a small click to support her. Something like the Jedi Fallen Orders small crew.

@ElricReturns - I wouldn't mind that, except I want it to be with Finn. Him having force powers now would be a great catalyst for him to go searching for qnything force related. Feels like Rey's arc is complete, whereas Finn's has just begun

@ElricReturns - YES!...ALL OF THAT!

@ElricReturns - I want to see her slowly find her Jedi self and personal self. 2 arcs feeding off each other. Her Jedi self...A New Order. Not Peacekeepers something of a hybrid of Peacekeepers and Warrior. A Sect of Jedi to honor Kylo in her way. I want her to completely rebuild the Falcon with 007 upgrades, but keep it looking like a bucket of bolts. Her personal conflicts take her all over the galaxy and intertwined with her Jedi recruitment. Yes, she has to have her own droid and an Ewow with tech skills! A boy can dream!

Yes! I would love a new trilogy.

I think they could go in interesting directions now that they've retread the old ground. It was an uneven trilogy but there are places could go with it.

Rey could be running a large Jedi academy on Jakku or Tatooine
The New Republic could be rebuilding but it's fractured and there's a lack of trust. Maybe Rose is the chancellor.
There could still be First Order warlords in certain regions that Finn(who now has Jedi training) and Poe are tasked with dealing with that.
We could introduce, say, a new army of Sith. Rule of two is out the window and it's like there's a crusade of Exegol cultists recruiting or killing force users across the galaxy. So it's sort of an arms race between light side, led by Rey, and dark side, led by some new villain. They would have to be pretty dissimilar to Kylo, so no mask, less outwardly emotional, more pragmatic and driven.
We could bring back Ben Solo as a force ghost that offers guidance to Rey,

Maybe we could, to differentiate even more from what's been done before, instead of an extremist neofascist group like the first order was, have the goal of the Sith be to take over the galaxy so they could prevent something like The Grysk or some other big outsider threat that will come in a sequel.

@noahthegrand -
There's no way they pin the future of the franchise on Rey and I think that Grogu will be the nucleus of a new order, it may be Jedi and it may be something different. Taika is working on one and Feige is now involved and I'll bet folding cash that it won't be a rehash of JJ Abrams crap.

@noahthegrand - I like the idea of the Sith Eternal just coming out of the shadows and just waging some sort of arms race with the new Jedi. Do think it would be great to see Finn be the Jedi Grandmaster though.

And they really need to do a scene with the force ghosts of Anakin, Luke and Ben offering guidance to the new hero (maybe Rey's padawan?)

Well Disney is pushing hard for Rey to be the center of attention and the franchise in the parks.

eh not much more left to do in the palpatine saga era

time to move star wars trilogies into new areas, either the far past or the far future

bkmeijer2 - 3/15/2022, 6:56 PM
@dracula - far past preferably. Kinda wanna see the early days of the Jedi. Hundred year Darkness maybe, or maybe something closer with Darth Bane
dracula
dracula - 3/15/2022, 7:16 PM
@bkmeijer - show the formation of the jedi and the first to turn to the dark side

Maybe give them something different than lightsabers to start out
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 3/15/2022, 7:36 PM
@dracula - that would be pretty cool to see yeah.

Could see the conflict be about some proto-Sith believing one of the Jedi is already the chosen one and start to follow them, while the actual Jedi keep believing that isn't the case and that is the cause of their age-long conflict.

All three of the main new characters (Rey, Finn, Poe) have great actors behind them. It’s a big what-could-have-been if they had only found a story worth telling before rolling cameras. I’d be okay with seeing any of them back

George Lucas knew when to cash in his chips. Disney has whored Star Wars out so much that I am at best apathetic towards any new content. A sad realization in comparison to how excited I was back in 2015 for Episode 7.

The butchering of her character in IX was downright criminal like going what she goes through in the previous movies just to end up falling in love with a murdering fascist. smh
