Even three years on since the Skywalker Saga ended, the Star Wars sequels remain extremely divisive among fans of the franchise, with key creative decisions made by both J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson leaving a bad taste in the mouths of many.
Among them was how Rey's story played out, with the revelation that she's Emperor Palpatine's granddaughter (or, uh, the daughter of one of his failed clones) not quite landing the way Lucasfilm probably hoped. The Rise of Skywalker concluded with the Jedi declaring herself "Rey Skywalker," a moment that's been praised and ridiculed in equal measure.
Despite that, Star Wars fans remain keen to see Rey's story continue, particularly if it means actress Daisy Ridley can find some measure of redemption for the poor decisions often made with her character.
The internet is now all abuzz about a possible return following a social media post from the actress suggesting she's paid a visit to Lucasfilm's headquarters. Ridley would later share an update (via SFFGazette.com) saying she was there for lunch and that "nothing saucy [was] happening," though we do wonder if that was just an attempt to put an end to any speculation!
Recently, we've heard that one of the many upcoming Star Wars movies might be set after The Rise of Skywalker, so perhaps there are plans to finally revisit some of the sequel trilogy characters? It would be great to see what happened next to Rey after becoming one of the Galaxy's most powerful Jedi Knights, and a new creative team could make up for past mistakes.
On the other hand, it's always possible Ridley was just at Lucasfilm for a simple lunch just as she claimed, so we'll have to wait and see on this one. Given how often the studio's big screen plans often fall apart, we probably shouldn't get our hopes up, regardless.
