STAR WARS: Marvel Comics Introducing A New Bounty Hunter In WAR OF THE BOUNTY HUNTERS This July

As part of the ongoing War of the Bounty Hunters event, Marvel Comics plans to introduce a newly created bounty hunger called Deva Lompop. Check out a first look at Jabba the Hutt's new recruit here...

Marvel Comics has announced that a new bounty hunter will be added to this Galaxy Far, Far Away on July 21 in the pages of Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters - Jabba the Hutt #1

Created by writer Justina Ireland and artist Iban Coello, Deva Lompop will be recruited by Jabba the Hutt to succeed where Boba Fett has failed by bringing him Han Solo! Equipped with an array of unique weaponry and sporting a killer design, Deva is set to have a major impact on the action-packed crossover and will appear in all four upcoming War of the Bounty Hunters one-shots.

However, while Deva may be new to Star Wars fans, it's said that she’s been causing trouble in the Galaxy for a very long time. A member of the alien species known as the Shani, Deva’s long lifespan has allowed her to operate in the underworld since the High Republic era, and that means we can expect her to appear in those stories soon too (it could even lead to a live-action debut).

"Deva was the product of my absolute love of feathered lizards and badass women," Ireland explains. "There is definitely something awesome about getting a chance to bring a High Republic character to the War of the Bounty Hunters, and for High Republic fans they should watch for Deva in upcoming works."

Check out some cover art and designs featuring Deva Lompop below:

So, is the High Republic era canonically the 1980's then? I mean, I dig the look. Takes me back to my childhood.

@inkniron - this isn’t during the HR.

@Gmoney84 - I guess it makes sense since the original Star Wars is basically a space westerns set in the 70's, that they'd follow up that era with this.

You'll have to do some mental gymnastic if she shows up in High Republic era properties with a similar look though.

@inkniron - This might sound weird, but this look would not work in a movie. When I look at this, she screams "Hi, I was created for a comic book and not the original trilogy era of Star Wars".

I think its the giant rainbow mohawk. The rest is fine. But that mohawk is way too 80's punk rock, and just doesn't mesh well with anything else. I don't know, maybe its just me.

But I also don't see the point of this story at all. Its supposed to be about all these bounty hunters in a race to catch Han Solo, but we all know Boba Fett is the one that catches him, with the help of Vader. So it all seems pointless. But who knows, maybe it can pull a Rogue One and have a really entertaining story that we've never seen before, even though we know how it will ultimately end already.

We all knew the Avengers were going to win, but we still watched Endgame.

@CorndogBurglar - Oh, it would for sure be a hard sell live action. It was created solely to do what it did for me, evoke nostalgia to that time of yesteryear. It would be easier to pull off if they hadn't gone all rainbow on it though.

As for not telling this story, it's about as necessary as the Obi Wan Series. He dies an old hermit who served his primary function, protecting Luke and keeping Vader from discovering him. Everything else should be largely inconsequential. Again though, nostalgia.

@Reeds2Much - There's a big differenc3 between knowing the good guys are going to win, and knowing the entire outcome of how a story will win. We knee the Avengers would win, but we didn't know how, or what characters we would lose along the way.

With this kind of story, we already know Boba Fett is the one that wins and capturez Han. We also know exactly HOW it happens. Why? Because we literally already saw it play out in Empire Strikes Back. All of the rest of this is just filler. Nothing in Endgame was stuff we already knew.

But thats why I said hopefully its an entertaining story. Because things like this HAVE to great, otherwise they feel pointless. Rogue One was so good because the characters were awesome and the story was great, deslite the fact that we already knew the team would succeed in getting the Death Star plans to the Rebellion.

@inkniron - At least with Obi Wan it sounds like we'll be getting an Inquisitor, which is actually a big step for the live action side of Star Wars. I agree though, the events don't seem like they will really matter.

Although, I do find it weird that its sounding more and more like the Empire knew Obi Wan was on Tatooine. Unless Obi Wan leaves Tatooine for all of his scenes with the Empire, I'm struggling with how the Empire could have discovered he's there, but then seemingly decided to leave him alone for all that time leading up to A New Hope. If they discover him there I would think they would keep hounding him until they kill him.

@inkniron - more Nordic/mad max. The villains are essentially space Vikings in the vein of Mad Max villains
inkniron
inkniron - 6/27/2021, 12:22 PM
@CorndogBurglar - No doubt. Unless it's on the cusp of Alex Guinness's version, you wouldn't think they'd slow up on a barrage of attacks on him if he was discovered. I mean I'm still going to watch, but to me, leaving exile is a big no no. He obviously doesn't do much in terms of helping the locals because Mos Eisley is still a wretched hive of scum and villainy, Jabba is running wild and the original just leads me to believe that Vader has no idea his kid (he only knew of one to the best of our knowledge) or Obi Wan was there. It all just seems like a shoulder shrug to me.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 6/27/2021, 5:08 PM
@inkniron - Yeah agreed. Leaving exile would be bad, but the only reason I can see him leaving Tatooine is if he found out the Empire was coming and he tried to lead them somewhere else away from Tatooine and Luke. I mean, protecting Luke is his priority, so I could see him doing that.

But thats also the reason he doesn't do anything to help the planet. He doesn't want word to get out that a Jedi is living there. I just really hope the people making this show are keeping all of this in mind, because one wrong step can create all kinds of silly holes or contradictions in the overall story. And I would hate to see that all for a show that isn't necessary, story-wise. Even though I'm excited for it.
inkniron
inkniron - 6/27/2021, 7:10 PM
@CorndogBurglar - Exactly right. I got piled on when they first announced this because the only thing that made sense to me is this is a cooking show with Chef Obi Wan focused on local Tatooine cuisine; all self hunted and foraged. To me, his exile should be sitting on his hands making sure nothing happens to the the boy. That's it. You don't get a rep of being a crazy old hermit if you're out and about doing shit or doing anything to bring attention to yourself.

Still watching though.

@inkniron - well actually, George Lucas is the fan of Lord Of The Rings, I guess he made Star Wars based on medieval-political war just like in Lord Of The Rings mix with some western set

We need more bounty hunter designs like 4-Lom and Zuckkus. More alien looking and less contemporary fashion/design trends.

Not a fan of the rainbow feathered mohawk. Not because it's a feathered mohawk but because of the colors. It just doesn't fit with the muted grungy look of Star Wars. Granted there are hundreds of planets that look futuristic and have lots of color. It just doesn't seem like something a Bounty Hunter would do. Especially when many are always incognito. The moment she lands on a planet looking for a target all of the locals will instantly recognize her and warn the target.

It's funny, because Darth Maul was originally envisioned with feathers on his head, but the concept artist interpreted them as horns and then they stuck. I'm guessing they decided to reference the feathered look that they never went with.

''Deva was the product of my absolute love of feathered lizards and badass women''

I don't know any feathered lizards, and although that and badass women combined makes for a weird obsession, I do like the look.
