STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER - A Closer Look At Rey's New Lightsaber Has Been Revealed

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ended with "Rey Skywalker" revealing that she had crafted a new lightsaber, and we now have a much closer look at that thanks to an upcoming book. Check it out...

Thanks to the upcoming Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection book, we have our best look yet at the lightsaber "Rey Skywalker" had constructed at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Shared by StarWarsNews.net, the page confirms that Rey used her staff for its handle, but not much more. While the movie was once going to feature a subplot about the weapon's creation, Lucasfilm creative art manager Phil Szostak later revealed that the decision was made to cut that.

It's hard to say whether we'll see replicas of this lightsaber eventually hit stores, but there are certainly plenty of fans out there who would like to own a version of Rey's final weapon. The Rise of Skywalker's final minutes saw her bury Luke and Leia's blades, so it made sense for the hero to create her own.

Whether Lucasfilm will decide to explore what came next for Rey remains to be seen, though the backlash surrounding Episode IX's creative decisions probably make that unlikely. However, with so many unanswered questions, it would be fitting for a novel or comic book to help wrap those up.

Unfortunately, we'll just have to wait and see whether that's something which ever actually happens.

Are we going to see it again? Are we going to see any of these characters again? Does anyone even want to?

I have a feeling we're getting a closer look every 2 months on average now

Lucasfilm needs to correct that to Rey Palpatine...what a dumpster fire of a trilogy.

@Joker2019 - Just because Rey said something doesn't make it true. She's using her made up name, there's zero relation between her and the Skywalker family.

(Spoilers obviously, sorry)

Doesn't hold a candle to Manadalorian's Darksaber, which was the best 'holy shit' moment of the show.

Never understood why Rey has a yellow lightsaber. Only temple guards use yellow. Unless JJ was just like "frick canon, yellow is a pretty colour".

Also, I question where she even got that lightsaber crystal. Maybe from a dead temple guard or something???

@Nightwing1015 - honestly, your “[frick] canon” explanation seems like the most simple and likely explanation for it... imho

@Nightwing1015 - i really hate defending the movie, but you do know she carries the last text of the jedi right? And shes going to protect it right? She'd need to define these things herself so it makes sense she felt her role was mostly like a temple guard than anything.

@Origame - Yeah but I wonder if that was actually the thinking behind it though. They probably just thought yellow was the best colour and didn't care about the temple guard thing. I do wonder where she got that crystal though.

@Nightwing1015 - i think you're thinking too deeply into it. This same complaint was made when mace windu had a purple lightsaber. But as time went on we learned what that meant in universe. Maybe they thought it through, maybe they didnt. We really dont need to know what it means until they define what happens after this movie, which won't happen for a while.

I really don’t like her saber, they wasted the yellow beam on it. Yellow and green are my favorite saber colors and they finally have an on screen yellow with this garbage. It’s way too chunky and is impossible to properly grip with 2 hands

Still doesn't hold a candle to Ezra's pistol saber.

Just another stupid "fan service" moment tacked on the movie that made no sense. She should have had it the entire movie. That's one good thing that Rian Johnsson set up was destroying Luke's lightsaber so that Rey would have been forced to build a new one of her own.

Instead, Abrams had Rey repair Luke's lightsaber. And not only that, Luke then randomly gives Leia's saber to Rey so she could have two? Why not just have Rey acquire Leia's saber after Luke's was destroyed in TLJ? Why have her rebuild Luke's saber and then get ANOTHER one? I know why, because they wanted Ben to have a blue lightsaber. Well guess what, if they had Rey build her own from the beginning, then Luke could have still given her Leia's lightsaber which could have been given to Ben and then everyone has their own saber. It actually would have made more sense for Ben to be using his mother's lightsaber instead of his uncle's lightsaber anyway.

Oh and there's more. After Rey uses the Skywalker lightsabers and calls herself a "Skywalker", you would think that means she's going to keep the sabers forever, right? Wrong, she buries them and then winds up building her own after ALL THAT. So again, I ask, why the hell didn't she just build her own from the beginning? It obviously seemed like a pretty simple task.
