STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Made Available Early On Digital In Apparent Response To Coronavirus

It appears as if Disney is looking to make things better for anyone forced to self-quarantine as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been released on digital platforms a few days sooner than expected...

While we've not heard anything directly from Disney/Lucasfilm, it's been confirmed today that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been quietly released on digital platforms a few days earlier than expected in North America. Late last night, it dropped on Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play, and Vudu.

Originally, the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga was scheduled to arrive this coming Tuesday.

It definitely appears as if this is a reaction to the Coronavirus pandemic, but this may have been a smart decision on Disney's part as well. After all, with people reluctant to head to theaters this weekend to check out the likes of Bloodshot and The Hunt, why not give them the chance to stay at home and watch The Rise of Skywalker instead?

The movie will cost $20 in 1080p or $25 in 4K UHD. If you fancy binge-watching the entire Saga, though, the $100 Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga 9-Movie Collection is also now available!

There's been a lot of speculation about postponed theatrical releases being sold on digital platforms if theaters are indeed about to close their doors, but that seems unlikely all things considered. However, depending how bad the Coronavirus becomes, movie studios will need to find some way of responding to this pandemic (which could definitely change how we view movies).

Are you guys planning to watch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker this weekend?

I haven't seen it since opening night. Didn't like it. Might give it a second try.

@WakandanQueen - The 2nd viewing for me was interesting and definitely necessary. It made me appreciate the genuinely good or great moments that I had glossed over the first time. The emotional beats worked very well despite knowing what was coming. However the weak parts didn’t get any better or more excusable. If anything it made me more irritated that they failed to plan the most basic of stories across a 3 movie arc.

th everything being on lock down I can finally get back to writing my novel.

Picture it:

Set in the American South against the backdrop of the American Civil War and the Reconstruction era, we follow the story of a young and beautiful southern belle. She is the strong-willed daughter of a Georgia plantation owner. It follows her romantic pursuit of confederate soldier, who is married to his cousin, and her subsequent marriage to a blockade running scoundrel

@JaKBaLLTV - That's a pretty stupid name for it. Statistically it's whacking more people from the Silent Generation and GenXers. Baby Boomers are third on the list. It'd probably be getting more from the Greatest Generation, but there are so damn few of those left.

Liked it better than TLJ. Curious to see what will be next of the SW franchise especially if Favreau takes over as rumored
