UPDATE: George Lucas Says He Sold STAR WARS To "White Slavers"; Talks Disagreements With Disney

UPDATE: George Lucas has just apologized for his "white slavers" remarks. He released a statement admitting his flaws, and congratulated J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy for the film's success.  Check out his full thoughts below.

"I have been working with Disney for 40 years and chose them as the custodians of Star Wars because of my great respect for the company and Bob Iger’s leadership. Disney is doing an incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise. I rarely go out with statements to clarify my feelings but I feel it is important to make it clear that I am thrilled that Disney has the franchise and is moving it in such exciting directions in film, television and the parks. Most of all I’m blown away with the record breaking blockbuster success of the new movie and am very proud of JJ and Kathy."

Original article:

Nearly everyone is applauding J.J. Abrams for the work he's done on the newest Star Wars film. The film has a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and is dominating the box office like no film has ever done! Even though the film is a major success around the world, there's one significant man who has some problems with the new film and Disney. And surprisingly enough, that man is the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas!

In a recent interview with Charlie Rose, the former Star Wars owner revealed what he disliked about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. "They looked at the stories, and they said, ‘We want to make something for the fans.' Lucas said. "They wanted to do a retro movie. I don’t like that." Shortly after, George Lucas spoke on the many disagreements he had with Disney, or as he would call them, the "white slavers". "I sold them to the white slavers that takes these things, and..." After deciding not to finish the sentence, he continued, "They decided they didn’t want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing. They weren’t that keen to have me involved anyway — but if I get in there, I’m just going to cause trouble, because they’re not going to do what I want them to do. And I don’t have the control to do that anymore, and all I would do is muck everything up. And so I said, ‘OK, I will go my way, and I’ll let them go their way.’"

To see Lucas speak for yourself, check out the video below.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has just become the ninth-highest box office film of all-time, and by the looks of it, it just might become number one in a few months. So even if George Lucas has a problem with the franchise, it can't really stop the film's success. The Force is strong with the franchise now and it only looks to get even stronger as we go into the future. So George, if you have any regrets, follow the wise words of Yoda: "Use faults as teachers, you should. Then, rule you, they will not. Rule them, you shall." As well as Qui-Gon: "You must accept your regret the way you accept your mistakes. Then move on."

George shouldn't have sold the rights if he felt that way. Its ridiculous for him to complain about it now after he took Disney's money.

But I will say that after seeing Force Awakens I can understand why he's pissed about what Abrams did with the mythology. That film was so sloppy and poorly developed it made me miss the old man's prequel.

The smartest thing Disney ever did was acquire ESPN. All this talk about Star Wars and ESPN is still worth roughly 4x as much as Lucasfilm and more valuable to Disney than Lucasfilm, Pixar, and Marvel combined.

As the X-Men/FF movie fanboys would say, "he sold those rights fair and square."

I'm sure he's wiping his tears with the 4 billion dollars he got out of the deal.

Dude you got 4 billion dollars for the rights to SW and that's on top of the money you've already made.

Quit yer bitching and go do those indie films you've been pining over all these years.

I respect Lucas

There's a lot more to that interview too

He basically said he sold the rights so that the fans could get all of these movies, because Lucas knows that he is getting old and that he won't be able to keep making these movies

I think it's cool that he's venting, because it shows how passionate he's always been about these characters.

Anyway, I think everyone should be happy, because now your getting Star Wars movies every year and it's because of George Lucas. Lucas could have held on to the rights until the day he died if he wanted too, and then he could have given them to someone else, a relative, whatever, but he sold them to Disney

I think TFA has proved to me that I've completely grown out of Star Wars, ha, but I like that Star Wars is a generational thing and a new generation can watch the movies now

Also, likening the Star Wars franchise to a slave. Give me a [frick]ing break. This man is so out of touch.

His hyperbolic remarks reminds me of a few people here.

Stop complain. You're movies were shit, Disney's one was actually good

Besides, what's wrong with making a movie for the fans?

"Rey, I am not your Father" and then do a little dance

this movie is shit and so is rt.

it pisses me off that this guy still gets interviewed about star wars. he sold it. he has no right to talk about it anymore. since episode 1 it has always been the same interview with the same responses anyway. just go to youtube and watch some old ass interview shit.

people do not care about his opinion of the movie anyway. they just want to keep watching this shitty sw movie over and over.

So true too, love or hate the prequels, they still felt fresh and added something new

The prequels has more memorable action sequences, etc, imo too.

It's too early to judge though, I think TFA sequel is going to rock

TFA was garbage. I am convinced general audiences talked themselves into liking that movie the way they convinced themselves into liking the prequels.
