TERMINATOR Distribution Rights Head To Paramount; Producers Now Attached

Despite Arnold Schwarzenegger's recent claims that work is still moving ahead on a fifth instalment of the Terminator franchise, it's been a long time since we heard anything concrete. Well, it is now being reported that Paramount want the rights and that two well-known producers are attached.

The Wrap reports that Paramount Pictures are now in negotiations to acquire the rights to distrubite the highly anticipated fifth instalment of the Terminator franchise. Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) were hired to pen the screenplay back in January, although plans for Justin Lin to direct fell apart before that due to his commitments to Fast & Furious 6 (he was said to still be open to working on the project and is now free after deciding not to return for the next part of that franchise). What we DO know however is that Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures and David Ellison's Skydance Productions will produce the film and that it is hoped that production can begin as early as next year. How excited are you guys for this movie?

I dont want to see a reboot of this at all, however I wouldn't mind them covering the actual Terminator/Human war, it would still have to be in continuity with the previous films. No more going back to the past.

This franchise should have ended after 2. That was a perfect way to end the story right there. But, oh no Hollywood has to milk the [frick]ing cow dry don't they? 3 and 4 ruined it

@SotoJuiceMan

I liked Terminator Salvation, sure it is nothing compared to the first two, but it was better than 3 (ok, so watching paint dry was better than 3 but still...) but Salvation was still a good post-apocalptic movie. Sure, it will never get on anyone's top 100 list but its better than a lot of crap. Kindly STFU

And just treat Salvation like the Phantom Menace of the franchise and move on with a loose sequel to it. theres really no loose ends from Salvation that need to be tied up in a sequel, so move on with a new movie set in the future, closer to James Cameron's vision of the future

@Durf

Agree it was the perfect ending to the series, they stopped skynet, they got rid of tech and data that would avert the terminator controlled dystopia, this series didn't need a third or fourth movie.

@SotoJuiceMan,

I was 18 asshole, and don't make this about age. I'm 22, and an old soul. I'm also a lot more open-minded about things than most people (especially on this site). You can always not see it you know.

How about a Alien vs. Predator vs. Terminator movie or game?

I actually really liked Salvation. It wasn't anywhere near 1 or 2, but it was worlds beyond 3, which was god awful. Salvation's acting was over the top at times( especially Bale's) and some stuff didn't make sense of the story and the dialogue was pretty bad at times too, but overall I enjoyed it.
Durf
Durf - 6/11/2013, 6:35 PM
@Ocelot: exactly. 3 and 4 were purely money grabs

OMG they're still trying to keep this franchise alive? Terminator Salvation was nonsensical, boring, piece of hot garbage. Not even christian bale using his batman growl could save the movie. Unless James Cameron returns to write and direct, this franchise is dead to me.

youre [frick]ing kidding me right, TERMINATOR 3 WAS THE BIGGEST LOAD OF BULLSHIT. It was a spoof of the first two and basically made fun of everything that made the first two great. It had the worst John Connor ever and Claire Danes sounding like a retarded bitch all the way through the movie. Even Arnold was embarrassing in that one!

Sure, I agree with you Salvation had idiotic moments, but T3 was just horrifying to watch. That [frick]ing scene in the bar at the start was cringeworthy to watch, A LITTLE CHEESY???!!! Try a [frick]ing cheese pizza level of cheese! if you seriously liked T3, I CANNOT take anything you say seriously! And Im a person who normally respects everyone's opinions, but some opinions like yours, I cant take seriously!

And what is your ongoing problem with the movie, theres being passionate about hating a movie and then theres going into an endless rant about it!

and your problem with the idea that Skynet knows about the threat of John and Kyle before they are even a threat, thats easily solved. Skynet was made from the chip of the first Terminator sent back in time. It would have the data of John Connor being the leader of the Resistance and Kyle Reese being the one sent back to protect Sarah. Its obvious Skynet backed up the information before the arm and chip was destroyed in T2

Although I do agree, that entire plot was unneeded. John should not have been treated like a threat until he did something to damage Skynet. It made no sense for anyone who had not watched the other movies, and wasnt Salvation intended to bring in new audiences?

There are still sad fanboys out there that think this is following some sort of plan. The first movie was made by Orion, the second by TriStarColumbia, the third and fourth by Warner Brothers and no they're selling of the worthless rights to these characters to anyone who wants to have a go at making up some more shite excuses to string a bunch of action scenes together on the big screen for those desperate enough to throw their money at and then complain about what doesn't make sense.

Hollywood executives must look at fanboys and see sheep with endless cash!

I'm going to spare Ceejay my previous wrath, considering we've agreed on some things recently.

But at @SotoJuiceMan,

An old soul as in I like older things, as compared to my peers, you motherf*****.

I suggest everyone leave this asshole be and just let him spew his arrogance. We're only fueling his particular brand of stupidity.

I hate to say it but even T2 was a cash grab. But isn't every mainstream movie?? Arnold's popularity, product placement,catch phrase and all. I think this says it all

And this

Commercialized my friend, its all about selling the product, and T2 did that.

1st is and always will be the best Terminator. 2 was ok, a little too commercial and the John Conner and Terminator buddy scenes were annoying to me. 3 and 4 were pieces of shit.

seems like the studios are passing terminator around like the town slut at this point... this franchise is in the dumps!

Fans still holding out hope for another T2 but who can make another as compelling as that?... T2 is seriously the PERFECT action movie. I utilize things that I learned from it in my writing and illustration to this day!

Will the film successfully re-create the form of T& T2? Can't get any worse than Salvation. Don't want to see banal Bale return though a link to The Sarah Conner Chronicles would be good.

I never got through Terminator Salvation. To me it seems like it was always meant to be a two part story, and I considered 3 to be sort of an epilogue. I think they should have left it a trilogy.

Probably on my own here but I still hope this franchise has legs...

1 & 2 are two of the best sci=fi movies of all time, 3 is terrible and 4, well it is'nt as bad as a lot of people say... its certainly good enough for some talented writers to proceed from.

I'm in!!!!

A few gripes aside with the directing, I thought it Salvation was solid.

Soto, you're next to alone on you're hardcore side of the spectrum. If you want to get REAL, nothing will EVER beat the first one. I'll tell you why. Based on your logic it's dumb to have Marcus wake up, not be a villain, blah blah blah.

You want to know what's even more dumb? Not sending a T-1000 to the day before Kyle Reese shows up.

I usually don't diss on people, but you're an idiot, and now a Terminator troll.

if there's a fifth one, it should pull a star trek, and ignore the third and fourth films. like the tv series
