The Terminator Franchise is For Sale

Halycon has made a statement where they expect "to announce a successful sale or recapitalization no later than February 1, 2010."

For a long time people have been fighting over the Terminator rights. Then they finally stop and we get Terminator Salvation. Then, when they are about to make a fifth movie, the Halycon company decides to sell the rights. Here is the update from deadline:

When last we left the tug of war over the future of The Terminator franchise, it was out for bid, and at least one potential buyer was Joss Whedon (prepared to ante all of $10,000). Today Halcyon Holding Group, which announced it was contemplating a sale of its rights to Terminator after filing for Chapter 11 protection last August as a result of a dispute with a lender, released the following statement:

“When Halcyon announced the bidding process for the Terminator franchise last month, we indicated that in addition to an outright sale of the property, we would also consider other strategic options, including a recapitalization ofthe company. Over the past few weeks Halcyon and its professionals have engaged in in-depth discussions and negotiations with numerous serious potential buyers, including several major movie studios. In addition, a number of attractive refinancing alternatives have also been presented. In order to maximize the value of a transaction for all of the company’s creditors and stakeholders, we are fully analyzing all these options. As a result, we will not be committing to a 'stalking horse' bid at this time. Nonetheless, given the significant positive interest in the Terminator franchise, we expect to be in a position to announce a successful sale or recapitalization no later than February 1, 2010.”

James Cameron needs to come in and buy it...after I read how he came up with it and how he struggled to get the first one done I think maybe he'd like to get back in and restore his franchise a bit. I really liked Salvation, it was well done, blew 3 out of the water and had good action...the CG Arnie was awesome throwback...I felt a little rushed in it and it basically took from all the previous elements...even up to the Terminater chasin em around a factory, disguises its voice and then they stop it with some molten steel...Salvation was good...A new Cameron Terminator would be very interesting considering his access to that amazing effects team...

WarNoodle- I beg to differ. I think Arnold is an ego-maniac. He would likely put his face in it and ruin everything. Continuezero is correct that Cameron would probably best suit the franchise.

I'm lost didn't the movie make money, I liked it. It was better then the 3rd and it was different. My question is where the hell the money go? so does the sell mean the new movie company will continue?

The movie was a much needed change vs. having yet another movie where a bigger badder Term comes to earth to kill john connor.

The future showing how he became john was tight...
I could have lived with either or ending. I like sam worthington and would have loved to have him as like Johns personal body gaurd in a second movie.

Or as John Connor.
From the TV show and what little we saw in all pre 3 movies I thought JC was sort of cold calculating person. Marcus seemed more like JC in the movie than the real JC.

The only problem would be how could the Marcus JC have the original JC memories once he sent back T101's.

@Betty & Jaymaster
Probably, I can just see it now:

Well lets hope this time that a proper company buys the Terminator franchise who will hire a good director who will come up with a proper plot where the Resistance are fighting T-800 armies, not just a couple of them! The plot should be that because they shut down the very first T-800 factory in Terminator Salvation, it gave the Resistance time to find a weakness against the T-800 robots which eventually got made because Skynet made them in secret. So the next movie should have John Connor leading the resistance against the t-800s and their weakness could be that humans could capture them and re-program them to serve the humans instead. Then the movie could end with the two Arnies, Kyle Reese and the T-1000 prototype being sent back in time. Skynet could escape one last time to create an army of T-1000s/T-X's that it tries to send back in time to right after Judgement Day to destroy humanity at their weakest after the nuclear explosions. John Connor and the Resistance would have to try and prevent this

i don't understand why so many people didn't like this movie. i thought it was great. it was way better than the 3rd. and i liked the new idea and direction. how many times can we sit there and watch a movie about a new kind of terminator coming back in time to kill john or sarah??

if the terminator's REALLY didn't want john to be born, they should have just NOT sent a terminator back to begin with...then kyle reese would have never been sent back to save sara...also meaning he wouldn't have knocked her up and fathered john. which makes me wonder...how did john get born ORIGINALLY if the machines didn't send back a terminator until after he was born?? doesn't make sense...

"I beg to differ. I think Arnold is an ego-maniac. He would likely put his face in it and ruin everything. Continuezero is correct that Cameron would probably best suit the franchise."

but he didn't have anything to do with salvation, yet "his face was in it" and it didn't ruin anything...

$10,000? Seriously?..................

How bout 10 of us chip in a thousand bucks and make the Terminator film we all want to see?
Betty
Betty - 12/7/2009, 9:04 AM
sketch7eleven-- Or 10,000 of us with a dollar each. What a cluster fuk that would be. Can you imagine 10,000 fanboys having to agree with each other? T4 wouldn't get done until the eloi inhabit the surface and they would be like, yeah, that already happened.

CDB-While its true that Governator's face is in it, his wrinkly 62 year old self wasn't. Also, he didn't even speak. Schwarzeneggar would ruin it by thinking he has something to contribute to the franchise with his witless humor.

Well, I did comment on here already but it was apprently deleted for some reason...

What I originally said was that I wasnt too impressed by Salvation - it was good but by the time it was over I just didnt feel like all that much had happenned but if it was supposed to be the first part of the trilogy I guess that sort of makes sense!
