The Title Of The Next PLANET OF THE APES Movie Has Been Revealed

The end of Matt Reeves' Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes saw Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his ape army prepare for an all out assault from the human armed forces; so the title of the follow up flick probably won't come as much of a surprise! Find out what that is after the jump...

According to Collider, the third Planet Of The Apes prequel movie will be called War Of The Planet Of The Apes. Again, when you consider what the previous films have been building towards, most fans probably assumed it'd be something along those lines. Director Matt Reeves originally shot a different ending to Dawn which saw the human forces arrive on the scene via warships, but decided he'd rather leave things a bit more ambiguous. Still, it'd be surprising if the next movie didn't kick off in the aftermath of some type of initial skirmish.

Reeves has previously said that this story would be about Caesar becoming the "seminal figure for ape history", so does that mean we can expect the heroic simian to lead his people to victory? Well, we obviously know how all of this is supposed turn out... but that doesn't mean Reeves won't shake the journey up a bit.

War of the Planet of the Apes will be with us on July 14, 2017.

The films were always going to lead to a war so the title is fitting.

Dawn was one of the best movies of 2013. Can't wait for this.

This is such a stupid idea for a franchise. They should've left this cheese in the 60s.

What the [frick] is an army of apes going to do against laser-guided bombs or a few A-10s? Air superiority wins wars.

Ror, I have and I rolled my eyes the whole time. Even with some super virus, there will still be a pilot or two around to train some new pilots if need be.

I don't think he has seen the movies, they pretty much address those issues in the movies.

When they do regular ol' Planet of the Apes, I want it to be an adaptation of the book...where their society is more or less as advanced as ours.

@gulducati

Prior AF actually. In Vietnam the general public wouldn't stand for us carpet bombing civilians in Hanoi. I don't think people would care as much about monkeys.

Knew it'd be War. Although I expected it to be War For The Planet Of The Apes rather than Of The Planet Of The Apes.

It is a prequel..

Apes aren't monkeys..

and yes, all of that is addressed in the films.

I have an easier time believing that an evil robot could come to life and create a robot to conquer the Earth than a bunch of god damned apes.
