TASM 2 Actor Dane DeHaan Says "Really Cool" Things Were Planned For His Take On Green Goblin

TASM 2's Dane DeHaan has already said he has no interest in reprising the role of Harry Osborn, but during a new interview, the actor reveals that some "really cool" things were planned for his character.

Despite persistent rumors to the contrary, Dan DeHaan will not be returning as The Amazing Spider-Man 2's Harry Osborn/Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the actor recently stated that he'd have very little interest in reprising the role even if the opportunity was presented to him.

However, it sounds like DeHaan was very much on board with what Sony Pictures had in store for his take on the Green Goblin before TASM 2 effectively tanked the franchise.

While speaking to The Playlist about his role in new Apple TV+ Stephen King adaptation Lisey's Story, DeHaan reiterated his desire to move on from his Spider-Man character and "be a part of a different comic book movie,” but did also say that some "exciting" things were planned for Osborn down the line.

"At this point in my life, I’d much rather do something new,” he explained. “I love making those kinds of movies. They’re super fun to make and an incredible thing to be a part of. But I don’t think I’d want to go back and do something I did seven years ago. At the time, it seemed like something I was going to be doing for a very long time. That seemed really cool and exciting—where we were told they were going with it, and everything that was supposed to happen with it and ultimately didn’t. That would have been awesome, and it would have been a really cool, amazing thing in my life.”

“I just don’t see a reason to rehash a character I did seven years ago,” he added.

We'll probably never find out exactly where the studio would have taken DeHaan's Goblin in a potential TASM 3 and beyond, but there were reports that he would have ended up leading The Sinister Six. Now, a new rumor is claiming that Rhino, The Lizard, Sandman and Electro are set to form a different incarnation of the team under Willem Dafoe's Norman Osborn in No Way Home, but something tells us DeHaan won't be too cut up about missing out on that particular supervillain party!

Would you like to see DeHaan suit-up as the Green Goblin again, or do you think Sony/Marvel should move on with a new version of the classic Spidey villain?

If i were asked which Goblin I'd rather see, I love DeFoe, but I also would like DeHaan to have some form of redemption in the role, I liked his relationship with Andrew in the first half of the movie, even though his arc should have been over 2 or 3 movies

Im gonna go ahead and doubt that. I think he actually was a good Harry and had potential as a Goblin but those movies (while having some redeeming qualities imo) were way more bad than good especially TASM 2

I don't care what anyone says, Spider-Man out of nowhere wearing a firefighter hat was the most Spider-Man thing ever.

Dude said the same thing about Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, and that movie was a trainwreck.

They lost me when the Sony leaks said “clones”, “head in a freezer”, and “EDM is what millennials want”. He was a good Harry but I preferred Franco a lot.

@JFerguson - I had to look up what “EDM” meant just now. Didn’t know that’s what I want.

You know you have to be desperate to try to hype a horrible villain from a horrible movie

@AnthonyVonGeek - wait, is that the mannequin? Because that would be really impressive

@bkmeijer - Lol! how could it be a mannequin? He legit did a backfilp??

bkmeijer2 - 6/4/2021, 4:17 PM
@Nightwing1015 - I remember something about that from that Disney parks documentary on Disney+. The Imagineering Story I think it was called. Pretty impressive

Nightwing1015 - 6/4/2021, 4:23 PM
@bkmeijer - Well perhaps there's another mannequin in the park then but there's no way that's a mannequin in the video. It'd be cheaper to just have a guy do it anyway haha
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 6/4/2021, 4:55 PM
@Nightwing1015 - yeah I wouldn't believe it eother if I hadn't seen the video, but I did some searching and I think its a mannequin in your video

Think even for a stuntman its pretty dangerous

Nightwing1015 - 6/4/2021, 5:09 PM
@bkmeijer - Yeah that's pretty crazy stuff, perhaps the swinging part is the mannequin. But I'm pretty sure the backflip is a real guy. And that part at the end.

@Nightwing1015 - that part at the end where he scales down the building is definitely a real guy yeah

It’s funny how this movie was the most Spider-Man we had in the 5 movies that we had at the time. He’s looked and acted like Peter/Spidey. Yet no one liked it. I think it deserved a third to rectify itself.

@micvalpro - The second one was the one that should have rectified all the dumb stuff from the first, and it just instead doubled down. also any spider-man movie that has a 45 minute gap in the middle where we get ZERO spidey is not a good spider-man movie.
