Another Candidate For Spider-Man: Josh Hutcherson?

Another Candidate For Spider-Man: Josh Hutcherson?

IESB claim to have exclusive info that the young actor is being looked at for the role of Peter Parker in Mark Webb's Spider-Man reboot..

After Logan Lerman was confirmed and then debunked as the front runner in pretty much the same day any casting news on this project should be taken with a pinch of salt. But IESB are now reporting that another name has emerged in connection with the new wall crawler..

IESB has exclusively heard another candidate is on the short list for Pete Parker and his web-slinging alter-ego – Josh Hutcherson...Let's be clear on this, folks. We're not saying he has the role.

If you haven't heard of Hutcherson its because he hasn't really made any high profile movies yet. He played Brendan Fraser's nephew in Journey to the Center of the Earth, and also appeared in Zathura and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant. Apparently he is also appearing in the upcoming Red Dawn remake.

Hutcherson is 18, but looks about 12 so based on looks alone I'm not thinking too much of this.

IESB say they are awaiting word from Hutcherson's publicists to confirm or debunk, but since these guys broke the news of Joss Whedon directing The Avengers which turned out(seemingly) to be on the money, I wouldn't bet against this.

I just saw him over the weekend in Little Manhatten. He was a good actor (as a kid anyway). Not sure if he has the spidey quality though.

Really? I had never heard his name mentioned, what had you seen him in Tea? Is he good? He looks...pretty [frick]ing awful I have to say!

I think it should be a requirement that the actor have pubic hair to be eligable.

You filthy stinking foul beast!!!

I too affirmmed this kid as good candidate, you rat bastard!

Ok, all that isn't true except for the affirmation.

Hell no, what's wrong with this guys head it's like a cube?!

doesn't look like Peter and from what I've seen of his acting he's pretty bad.

@P862010- Nope teenager means pubic hair LOL ;)

He's always playing the troubled kid with a chip on his shoulder. Don't think he's right for Parker or Spidey!

Never figured you for a type-caster.

If he reads for the part and nails it, it means he's a good actor. I think he is.
In some of those troubled youth roles, when he makes the turn, he sells the film! That's good acting.

sweetre15 - 4/13/2010, 6:02 PM
Well,If this is Ultimate Spider-Man in that Parker had a chip on his shoulder about Uncle Ben dying when he had the power to stop it. Both him and Logan are good candidates but I'm guessing that Sony is building their short list. So bring on the shortlist Sony, lol.

Thats actually the best pic I could find of him! He really looks too young and like Ryden says, a bit strange. But having never seen him act I can't comment on that side of it which is the most important thing.

No. Don't like him as an actor. I'd rather have Lerman or Yelchin (even though the latter would be a better Harry)
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 4/13/2010, 6:11 PM
Well, he definitely doesnt look the part! He was decent enough in Journey to the Centre of the Earth 3D but I think I'd rather Lerman after his excellent performance in 3:10 To Yuma!

In all honesty though, it's hard to give a flying [frick] about this reboot. I'd like to take whoever thought of this whole high school thing and shoot them in the head. Extreme but true. :P
Phinehas
Phinehas - 4/13/2010, 6:14 PM
I think Jack Kirby thought of the whole high school angle, but it may have been the original writers.

I think Lerman has done gay porn, but it could have been just man-love movies.

Heck yeah!!! I love that kid!

Go Josh, Go Josh, Go Josh,

But seriously, that kid ain't half bad. Better than Zac Efron ftw

Tea...I dunno about that, he looks a bit..special actually. But I agree that Parker should be a bit more quirky than pretty boy, although we had that with Maguire and people whined. Speaking of which, Spider-Man 2 was on tv the other night and I don't care what anyone says about the Ock being a good guy, MJ being ugly, blah blah, it [frick]ing rules.

But Lerman and Yelchin both are better actors than Hutcherson. And I'd say Lerman has a better look than Hutcherson.
dabo

I think he's a solid enough young actor but I don't think his look really suits the part.

You can see him in his most recent role in this trailer here, playing a disgruntled teen of all things ;)

Anyway I'm still trying to garner support for my idea of Devon Werkheiser playing Spidey...

By what standards???

Phin: Based off of Meet Bill, and 3:10 To Yuma for Lerman.

Terminator Salvation, Alpha Dog, Star Trek, Charlie Bartlett for Yelchin.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 4/13/2010, 6:33 PM
Having seen Yelchin's performance in Terminator in which he was undoubtedly the highlight I put him at the top talent wise. I have seen Lerman in Yuma in which he was good, but then in Percy Jackson in which he wasn't..and like I said never saw this lad act, but Yelchin looks better for the part. Anyway, I don't really care, they could get a Jonas Brother and fire WEbb and hire Bay if they liked.

Haven't seen Hutcherson act, so I can't comment on that, but I agree with Tyler.

@anil- jims way too old for the role.. I could see this kid getting the role.. I think this movie is going to be really shitty though, i think theyve really lost their demographic. Sure kids went to see this movie, but the major fanbase id say is older. I could be wrong but id assume most of the people on here are around mid 20's

tea: I've seen RV, Bridge to Terabithia, Firehouse Dog, Journey to Center of the Earth, Kicking and Screaming, and Zathura.

All of Yelchin's performances are better than Hutcherson's IMO. He was the best part by far of Salvation and a bright spot in an already brightly lit Star Trek. Plus, his great performance in Bartlett and his dark one in Alpha Dog.

I've seen Lerman in Meet Bill where he was funny as shit, and in Yuma, where he was headstrong, determined, strong-willed, but rash as well. I haven't seen Percy Jackson, but most of the reviews I've heard from my friends say the fault was more with the direction and script.

@Tyler: Thank you people always ignore successes for failures and PJ:TLT was bad writing and script and in the books the kid was 12. Anyway yes,Lerman is talented based on the movies you mentioned however,I also reccomend My One and Only with Renee Zellweger,he's good in that too.
Also while I also agree that Lerman and Yelchin are both better than Hutcherson,I like how this short list is developing with no Twilight or Disney Channel actors but no matter who they pick fanboys(I mean nitpickers when I say that) will complain regardless of how good of a choice it really is.

Tobey Maguire.

Hey guys, off subject, but Redlettermedia have posted the new review of Attack Of The Clowns..possibly ages ago, I only found it now. If you have seen and laughed so heartily at their Phantom Plot review check it out..here's part six as a taster, I laughed pretty [frick]ing hard as the Sam Jackson stuff.

Spider-Man 2 is definitely up there with Iron Man and The Dark Knight as being one of the best CBM's ever.

I would hate to see Yelchin play Peter Parker...he was great in Star Trek and decent enough in Terminator: Salvation but nothing about him says Spider-Man to me! I guess that Aaron Johnson would be ok but he's already done the whole geek in high school thing with Kick-Ass. Plus, is it me or does he come across as a bit of a prick when he's being interviewed? I dunno, he seems decent enough but it's always as if he'd rather be somewhere else!

I'd love to sit here and get excited about this movie because Spider-Man has been my favourite character since I first saw the 90's animated series as a kid. The fact is though, we probably arent going to get a Stan Lee/Steve Ditko inspired movie, we'll get some Ultimate inspired thing made by a director who seemingly knows [frick] all about the character. I know it's too early to judge this but right now, I think I'll be sitting at home rewatching Spider-Man 2 rather than going to see this in the cinema. ;(

There's something about all these guys that seems so...un-spidey-ish. I'm not sure what it is.

Maybe I feel like we won't care about the new spidey. But I can't really say that yet, not until we've seen anything.

Lerman is an "ok" actor who got Percy Jackson based on his looks and still the movie sucked
Yelchin is too old and is more Harry Osborn than Spidey
Hutchersons got a blocky face and cant act
go with an unknown Sony

tea: Lol, yeah - I noticed when he was on Jonathan Ross (who to be fair, does ask some pretty stupid questions sometimes) that he kept making these expressions as if he was above the whole thing...but it's the same thing when I've seen him interviewed by anyone else from MTV to nobodies on the red carpet! The guy is great in Kick-Ass but a dick in real life it seems!

topgooner187: It most definitely is more than a little odd! Each to their own but as someone who's the same age as him, I cant imagine anything I'd want less than his personal life, lol! Regardless of what I think though, that's his business...I just wish he didnt come across as such an asshole every time I see him interviewed!
