Bare with me here, it's my first article here on CBM, its not too word heavy, and images are still a mystery to me. To see the leaked script click here: http://www.script-o-rama.com/movie_scripts/s/spider-man-scriptment.html

For those unaware throughout the early '90s James Cameron among others attempted many takes on our favorite friendly neighborhood wall-crawler . It would have been rated R due to its violence, poor decision making, sex scenes, and most assuredly language, not to mention the rumored cast (different discussion, not going there). I noticed from reading this throughout the day there were scenes distinctly similar to those used in the already released four Spider-man movies, that I didn't see posted here on CBM

1. ORGANIC WEBSHOOTERS, used in Spider-man (2002)

Within this version, James Cameron and the writing team had creative liberties with the character. They invisioned in Peter's power development he would have spider silk coming from his wrist rather than mechanical web shooters from the comics.

2. WHERE CAN I GET ABS LIKE THAT?! used Spider-man (2002)

Firstly, I know you were all thinking it when you watched this scene. This script also generated the nightmares that lead to an insane instant body development, from skinny nerd to making Superman look weak overnight.

3. "ELECTRO"'S DIALOGUE, used in Spider-man (2002)...shocker

Most dialogue or monologue repated to spidey himself made by this Carlton Strand, the mix of Kingpin and Electro was later used by Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin.

4. THE KILLER AND HIS TATTOO, used in Spider-man (2002) and The Amazing Spider-man (2012)

The killer was found by Spidey on a manhunt, listening in on the police, and being exceptionally violent from what I gather, similar to the first installment of the recent reboot of the series. Also the killer was identified by a tatto on his wrist and hand first spotted by Peter. The rest of the scene followed Sam Raimi's method except in the end he was webbed up and given to the police instead if falling backwards out a window.

5. POLICE IMMEDIATE MISTRUST

When Uncle Ben's killer is brought to justice, he is placed on the good of the car webbed up like The Amazing Spider-man scene. Not unlike the car thief scene he is fired upon by two police officers, to which he acrobatically dodges and disarms them. He later is almost arrested by a swat team prior to the Final Battle which would have taken place atop the World Trade Center towers.

6. SANDMAN used in Spider-man 3 (2007)

There was a brief flashback to sandman's first heist which was exactly the same as the armored truck scene in the controversial end of Raimi's trilogy, except it was not foiled by spider-man. When Peter first meets Boyd, this version of Sandman, he punched him in the gut and found his wrist go through, followed by a rock solid slam in return.

7. "DO I GET TO THANK YOU THIS TIME?" used in Spider-man (2002)

Although Peter is a a bit more stalker-like about it, he follows Mary Jane where she becomes harassed by a group of thugs, which stand no match to the web slinger, he threatens them in a horrible way I'm not sure I can repeat on this site, rather than beating them out of consciousness. Regardless, you get the concept.

8. SPREAD THE WORD used in Spider-man (2002)

This montage was immediately translated into the first movie. Following the death of Uncle Ben, Peter lives with responsibility by becoming a wide known hero, and it was shown through his various acts and thoughts from the people of New York. But rather than be lighthearted it was more in the darker, vigilante style of this movie's 2012 counterpart.

That was all I've found so far in my reading. If I missed anything please let us all know in the comments. Post your thoughts below!

Question: How did James Cameron affect the Spider-man Franchise?

Answer: Not in a good way.

He had some okay ideas, but I tried to read the script for a few pages and wanted to vomit. Seriously it was pretty bad.

Some of it I liked, like showing the toll on Pete's psych, and the end battle but yeah it was a bit strange. I read the whole thing and saw all the connections. After doing some farther looking into it there was some available concept art, and the cast. Like the kid playing Peter was John Connor in t2. Arnold Schwarzenegger was dock ock in a rewrit, possibly sandman in this version

Before I start, let me get his out of the way first: I love James Cameron. He is one of my favorite directors and one of the biggest influences on my adolescent life. However, I could not for the life of me read through his whole take on Spider-Man because he obviously had ZERO understanding of the character.

In addition, I'd like to saw that as much as we like to constantly argue about which onscreen version of Spider-Man is better, can we at least ALL agree that they're both miles ahead of Cameron's treatment?

And BTW this is an editorial not news.

Agreed. Both are better I enjoy both. My opinion, 2002 is my favorite, 2004 is the best, 2012 had its issues but is better than it's given credit, and 3 was disappointing but still enjoyable to watch. If you read the mark bagley spider-man 3 comic it makes venom a lot better too. Side note: is it just me who thinks its weird the 3rd one had the worst graphics despite being the newest of the three, with the highest budget

I know it's not news I'm not trying to promote it as news, so if I did i apologize. Just the first time I've used the site and wanted to point out there was definite influences

I don't know (or care) who the rumored cast was, but a movie is NOT rated "R" based on who us in the cast. There are NOT certain actors/actresses who automatically get an "R" rating.

The most horrible thing about Cameron's Spidey script was the endless puberty-reference stuff. "white stuff" coming out of his body, his body is changing, hormones out of control etc.

Good article and good attention to detail as to how some scenes and dialogue from the James Cameron Spider-man script came into play in the Spider-man films.

Even though i like all of James Cameron's films and even though it was a rough draft of his Spider-man script it would have been bizarre and weird.
