SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Producers Tease Spider-Gwen's Role And Romance With Miles Morales

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller tease Miles Morales' story arc in the upcoming sequel, while also shedding some light on what we can expect from Spider-Gwen.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was an Oscar-winning hit, so the pressure is on for the upcoming sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, to deliver. Miles Morales went through a lot in that first movie, but when we find him in the follow-up, it sounds like the teenager is looking to grow up!

"Miles is going through different phases in his life," producer Christopher Miller tells Empire (via The Direct). "Now he's got confidence, but he's starting to find out where his place in the world is, and he's feeling ready for his next challenges. He wants to leave the nest. He has to figure out who he is and who in his life matters, and what's important."

The filmmaker would go on to tease that Miles' journey plays out across "a big, multi-dimensional superhero scale," so there are clearly going to be a lot of Multiversal shenanigans in the movie.

That's set to involve a visit from Gwen Stacy, a character who struck up a close friendship with the web-slinger in the first movie. Now, though, it sounds like romance could be on the cards for these two.

"The movie opens in Gwen's world, and she has a lot of things going on," Miller teases. "There's a lot of her world in this movie."

Fellow producer Phil Lord adds, "There's tension between the romantic possibilities for her and Miles, and their desire to keep their friendship intact, and not to risk it. That's a really interesting place for two characters to be, especially when they're so young."

Spider-Gwen proved to be a breakout character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and we're still hoping that a female-led spin-off revolving around the hero happens. Across the Spider-Verse is the first of two planned sequels to the 2018 blockbuster, though, so chances are fans will get to spend a lot of time with these heroes no matter what happens on that front.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2, 2023.

Will she still have that haircut? Thought that was an accident in the first movie, why would she keep her hair cut like that?
