Jake Johnson stole the show as Peter B. Parker in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and with the final few minutes of that movie making it clear that Miles Morales will continue to travel through the Multiverse, fans have been hoping he might return.
The actor has expressed interest in reprising the role in the past, but during a recent interview with The Movie Dweeb, Johnson confirmed he's officially in talks to lend his voice to the untitled sequel. "I’ve been working on a contract. I believe Peter B. Parker is making a return," he revealed.
As for whether he could tease fans with what to expect from our next trip Into the Spider-Verse, the actor added: "I don’t know! I haven’t seen [the script]! All I know is that I heard nothing for the longest time and I was very sad. I really loved playing Peter B. Parker."
"I would like to know what happens with Peter B. Parker. I think the way his journey ended in the first movie was very open-ended," Johnson continued. "So, when I got word that they were working on a deal or figuring it all out, I thought I truly can’t wait to see what the writers came up with."
The expectation is that the spotlight will be put on Oscar Isaac's Spider-Man 2099 in the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel, which is exciting for many reasons. Sony Pictures hasn't given much away, though, and all we really know right now is that the follow-up is expected to swing our way on October 7, 2022.
