Doctor Octopus was put front and centre in Spider-Man: No Way Home's marketing campaign, but it was the Green Goblin who soon revealed himself as the threequel's true big bad.
The MCU doesn't have a Norman Osborn, but when the Variant we first met in 2002's Spider-Man found his way to Earth-616, he wasted no time in decimating Peter Parker's life. However, he did so minus the costume he once wore to battle Tobey Maguire's wall-crawler.
After Norman smashed his mask/helmet, the Green Goblin kept most of his suit but made a few enhancements and donned a purple hood as a way of paying homage to his comic book counterpart.
Cut sequences would have shown Norman using the Department of Damage Control's confiscated Stark Industries technology to improve his armour, while those goggles were supposed to be Doc Ock's. Now, newly released concept art reveals a somewhat more sinister take on the iconic baddie.
As you can see, one version of the Goblin would have featured him using pieces of his mask in a way that would have given us the best of both worlds: the Green Goblin's trademark helmet and Willem Dafoe's incredible facial experiences.
Another take sees Norman decked out in armour worn by Thor: The Dark World's Dark Elves. Both of these designs work spectacularly but, in fairness, so did the one we ultimately saw in the movie's final cut.
"Spider-Man: No Way Home is the greatest Marvel movie ever made. Period," we said way back in 2021. "As epic as it is emotional, this is not only a perfect blockbuster, but Spider-Man’s wildest, funniest, and most awe-inspiring adventure yet. It's a Marvel masterpiece."
