The now infamous Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is returning from it's three-week hiatus this week, reports Digitalspy.
Some of you on comicbookmovie has named it as the "thing that wouldn't die", and "it will eventually murder somebody". Anyway, as we all know now, it has suffered a great deal of production setbacks; serious cast injuries, budget issues and a decent amount of negative press.
Extreme negative reviews received during preview performances resulted in the the production being overhauled, a production worth the entire sum of 70 million dollar(!). A sum that still baffles me to think of!
Now, according to The New York Times, the updated and advanced return of the musical features five new additional flying sequences, expansion's for Aunt May, Uncle Ben and Mary Jane, a redesigned Arachne, a few new songs and an optimistic tone.
Writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had this to say: "There is still a ton of emotional complexity in the musical, and some of that original darkness.
We all also wanted a show that would honour the rich legacy and history of the Spider-Man story: the high school love story, the pretty girl next door, the science geek who is coping with new powers." Aguirre-Sacasa was hired in February to help rework the script.
I do not know about you but it has reached a point with that I almost feel I have to see it now, simply because of all the problems it has experienced. So to any interested Broadway-ish fans, the show re-opens to the public on June 14.
