When Spider-Man was remastered for the PlayStation 5 (just in time for Spider-Man: Miles Morales' release), Peter Parker returned with a new face. A lot of fans of the original game weren't happy, and the backlash aimed at Insomniac was extremely vocal.
For some, it was a silly thing to complain about. For others, however, actor John Bubniak was their Spider-Man. Ben Jordon was cast as the web-slinger to better match Yuri Lowenthal's facial capture, though Peter's youthful appearance wasn't well-received and there were campaigns to restore the character to how he first looked when Spider-Man was released.
That didn't happen, and Jordan is expected to lend his face to Peter again in the upcoming Spider-Man 2.
However, with Spider-Man now available on the PC, gamers have been dreaming up all sorts of mods to improve or change how they experience this adventure. That's included a first-person web-swinging mode, and now, the restoration of Bubniak's Spidey.
It's not a perfect match as the person responsible obviously didn't have access to Insomniac's source code, but even using what little information they had from the PS4 version of the game, we'd say they did a pretty damn good job that you can check out here.
The fact that the franchise now boasts a Tom Holland lookalike isn't the end of the world, and we're excited to pick up with Peter and Miles in the upcoming sequel. The game will pit them against Venom - voiced by Candyman legend Tony Todd - and possibly the Green Goblin as well. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a release date and isn't expect to swing into stores before 2024.
