Sony and Insomniac recently announced that Spider-Man 2 will swing into stores this Fall. Now, we wait with bated breath for a trailer and gameplay reveal, and it's fair to say this sequel is among the most highly anticipated video games of all time.

We've seen a brief teaser confirming plans for Venom to appear (which was first teased in Spider-Man's post-credits scene), but viral marketing now appears to have kicked off in Australia. As you can see below, a brief live-action commercial shows a reporter talking about some criminals who have been webbed up by New York City's two wall-crawling protectors.

With that, Peter Parker and Miles Morales are depicted swinging away from the scene of the crime before Sony touts the fact PlayStation 5 consoles are finally in stock.

Some of you may be quick to point out that the TV spot promotes a "Spring 2023" launch for Spider-Man 2, leading to the possibility this might be fan-made. However, as it's an Australian promo, it's important to note that "Spring 2023" is the equivalent of "Fall 2023" in North America and Europe.

We recently caught up with Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal about the game and he shared a big update on how work is progressing and briefly teased what fans can expect.

"I’ve still got a little bit to do. It’s a massive game so I’m still doing a little bit of work," Lowenthal confirmed. "I know they’re confident about their release date and Insomniac has always been good about that. Obviously, I can’t really talk about the game much, but I will tell you that it’s astonishing."

The Super Bowl is fast approaching, so if we're lucky, a new look at the game will be with us within a matter of weeks.

The first two arrived late in the year as well, so that it does so again this year doesn't surprise me.

Also, Sony just dropped a massive God of War axe in London. Thought that was fun too.

From a gameplay perspective, having two Spider-Men could be cool. But from a narrative point of view, having more than one person share the same identity/powers at the same time, whether it's Spidey, Superman or Flash... It generally just feels less special. It dilutes what makes the character special. But we'll see how they handle it.

@Fares - I dig it when it's side kicks like Speedy being like Oliver and Kid Flash being Barry's protégé. It's definitely a comic trope but one I'm not mad at. It adds a whole rhyming thing.

@Fares - outside of web fluid(which isn't even a power) are spiderman abilities even unique enough to call special? It makes the game more fun so I don't really see the issue

@Fares - I mean, in the 616 alone, there's Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Otto Octavius, Ben Reilly, Anansi, Mac Gargan, and Ai Apaec have all been known as Spider-Man while other Spideys were swinging around.

And that's not counting all of the Spidey adjacents, the 4 Spider-Women, Spider-Girl, the 4 Scarlet Spiders, Tarantula, Arana, Spider-X, Kaine, Blood Spider, Steel Spider, Ghost Spider, Silk, Doppleganger, there really are way too many Spidey knockoffs, and that isn't counting any symbiote descended from Venom, as they all have Spidey's abilities and share a similar aesthetic.

I still haven't finished the first game. Too many glitches and felt kinda boring.

Batman Arkham games were better minus Arkham Knight. Too many tank battles ruined that game.

@GodHercules20 - What were you playing it on?

@GodHercules20 -
WTF it's one of the most polished games I've ever played on both PS4 and PS5. Remember, that's VERY high praise considering it's a free roam superhero game.

I dont want to play as Miles (or any other spider person).

They should just give Miles his own game. Keeps the narrative clean. I really disliked the MJ side missions in the first. Took me right out of the game.

Not really feeling how there is two spidermen, so basically any villain is f***ed. and there’ll be zero stakes because when one spiderman is in trouble there’s another one to save the day. Spiderman saving spiderman

This article title sounded better than the video actually was… more like “live action view of the Spider-Man’s back and a blurry millisecond of Miles swinging away.”
