Raimi Reveals more on the Spider-Man 4 Villains (or villian-esses)

Sam Raimi has exclusively revealed to MTV more information on who or what may be going up against Spider-Man in the next movie...

By JoshWilding - May 28, 2009 10:05 AM EST
Filed Under: The Amazing Spider-Man
Source: MTV Splash Page

This from MTV's Splash Page-

When the director was asked how the selection of the villain/s was coming along with scriptwriter, David Lindsay-Abaire he said, "I’ve talked with David about a possible villain, villains, villain-ess. We’ve spoken about who knows what Spider-Man’s conflicting personas would be.”

Raimi also revealed that he may even be happy to introduce even the most obscure of supervillains, "That would be absolutely fine - but I’m not looking for things like that. I’m trying to, with the writer, find Peter Parker’s story primarily. And find the right conflict for him to come up against. So that either he can grow as a human being and overcome this thing, or perish. It’s more about finding the villain that represents the best story for Peter.”

However, Raimi also told MTV that whatever villain may be featured in the first draft script may not be the one who appears on the big screen, "Really, I have to read the screenplay and see if it’s working, what we’ve discussed. Before I really, in my heart, could tell you that I knew.”

So, what do you think all this means for which villain we may see in Spider-Man 4? And, is anyone else worried why Sam Raimi keeps going on about Peter Parker's story rather than the Amazing Spider-Man...after all, do we really want any more of Peter dancing?!?

Ahhh man, it has to be the right villain that fits. No morbius etc. Lizard/Kraven/Electro have my vote not all 3 at once of course

See now... did someone hit him in the head with a shovel??? Explain to me how you adapt a whole screenplay of Mysterio to say... The Lizard??? Anyone???

You kinda need the villan before you start with the screenplay there... [frick]tart!!!

And well, as for Peter, he better be focussing on him to make him get out of never never land!!!

spiderman is not really a story about spiderman, its actually a life story of peter parker...so if the author of this article doesnt approve that fact, it makes him an idiot who obviously doesnt understand the character and the story..Straczynski knew it ,Raimi knows it too... and i trust those pros more than some nerdy troll who writes this crap...

For sure. This is spiderman and I want to see him developed. SM3 focused on way too many villians and that made the plot too thin. Pick a villian and make it a good story.

Actually he said he learned his lesson from the two previous ones, not the third. So he definitly didn't. And judging by what he just said up there... he's not in line for a filming award either.

I think they should at least put something in spidey 4 that leaves a cliffhanger. to promote the sequel

If I get one more story of Peter Parker coming over adversity whether it be living with spiderman or trying to balance his social life or staying with MJ Im gonna cringe. Why cant he just be the amazing spiderman why can he just be photographer peter parker or work with doc.connors and kick villans ass and trying to help ppl sure everyone has adversity in some story but the growth of him is getting annoying and whinny. aka movie number 1. He was dealing with his new power deciding how should balance it with his social life and try to get MJ back at the same time. He realizes its what he needs to do and kinda lets go of certain things.

Number 2. He doesnt wanna be spiderman anymore he wans to LIVE. Be a college kid and not have sex with the girls he wants. His idenity is revealed to some which is pretty cool awesome makes sense we needed that as well

NUMBER 3. A combo of one and 2 but he is arrogant and thinkin of himself and has to come over that to balance his two lives OK WE GET

Can we move on from that i know we need growth in a story but these growing pains are becoming painful why can spiderman just learn lessons from his villains regarded how he should capture and take of him now instead of his social life as much ya know.

Screw a SM4. They should just do a network mini series with round robin sidekicks revenge storyline or something along those lines.

Maybe it's going to be a whole dance flick. Spider Man 4 Step up to the Streets. Who needs villains when Peter Parker can dance.
SpiderBat209
SpiderBat209 - 5/28/2009, 1:45 PM
The story should be about him starting a relationship with Gwen Stacy, since he and MJ split (they reconciled at the end of SM3, but who knows if they stayed together?)

Then, they should bring in HOBGOBLIN/ or CARNAGE and kill CAPTAIN STACY & GWEN!

Tragedy can make ANY person grow up quick!

I think we've had enough of this inner schoolboy conflict "should I be Spiderman or not", "what do I do with this power given to me". We need to see Parker comfortable with being Spiderman, not giddy like in 3 but relaxed to some extent. That can bring in a little more wise cracking. The conflict we need now is one from outside like how his actions as Spiderman affect those around him. What better villain to show that with than Lizard? He needs to be stopped but he is Peters friend.

I GOT IT!

Peter maries Mary Jane, but keeps Gwen on the side.
Aunt May will Shot by the villain and be on deaths door. Peter searches for a cure from everyone in the Marvel U niverse, he will o course have to do a cross over, since he is the only character owned by Sony. No one can help him. So he meets a lady in red who...get this she turns out to be Mephisto.

M offers to save Aunt May if Peter and MJ agree to sell the devil their marriage. They agree and MJ FINALLY SAYS HER LINE "Face it Tiger, you just hit the Jackpot." ANd flash everything is reset, Aunt May is alive, Harry is alive, Doc Ock, Gobby, but the only peole dead are Gwen Stacey...adn Kenny. The end scene is at Peter's birthday he makes a toast to "A Brand New Day." and he then turns the water, Into FUNK!

This of course was inspired by the Clone Saga, and the Maximum Carnage arcs.

I will mailbomb his ass if he cross' Gwen and Felicia, I'm not joking. A story circulating the Lizard would be a completely different type of conflict we've yet to see in the movies. Instead of trying to save MJ... AGAIN... Parker is fighting to save one of his mentor's from a terrible fate as a new pair of boots for Kraven, how much better can that get. Hell, with Kraven involved, we can even get the classic Buried Alive event(can't remember what it is actually called, Spider-fans know what I'm talking about) a Lizard/Kraven story would literally write itself along with nixing a necessity for the typical 'damsel in distress' C'mon folks, help me out here. Lizard/Kraven! Lizard/Kraven! Lizard/Kraven! Lizard/Kraven! Lizard/Kraven! Lizard/Kraven! Lizard/Kraven! Lizard/Kraven! Lizard/Kraven! Lizard/Kraven! Lizard/Kraven! Lizard/Kraven! Lizard/Kraven! @GUNSMITH

I like your idea for the theme of Spider-Man 4 but substitute Kraven The Hunter for Morbius and its perfect. The whole theme of being brave when facing real monsters would still work as Kraven is a monster of another kind for hunting innocent creatures and hopefully in this case, people i.e. Peter and Dr Conners in Lizard form.

But for Spider-Man 4, the basic plot should be Spider-Man faces the Lizard, tries to cure him. Kraven arrives in New York, hunts the Lizard but Spidey gets in his way. He hunts Spidey in a smaller version of Kraven's Last Hunt, buries Spidey in a grave and then goes off to take out the Lizard. Spidey gets out and movie ends with big final battle which ends in Lizard's and Kraven defeat and maybe, they could leave curing the Lizard until a Sinister Six movie or give him a cure that would have to be taken on a regular basis so an eventual regression into the Lizard could be explained easily in a Sinister 6 movie. It would be a movie where Spidey has to fight against the greatest threats, a friend turned into a mindless monster and a man without any remorse

Raimi wants to find Peter's story? I can think of two ways they can do this:

1. Bring back the Green Goblin (get rid of that awful [frick]ing costume though) and have him kill Gwen Stacy.

2. Kraven's Last Hunt.

Nuff Said.

alten2345 - 5/28/2009, 2:43 PM
Wait. No. I changed my mind. You want to know what storyline is "Peter's story" as Raimi put it?

THE CLONE SAGA!!!

LMAO.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 5/28/2009, 3:14 PM
@alten2345: Please no Clones lol.

@SpiderMan209: Butler would be great, but Scott Adkins would be even better. If you watch Undisputed 2, he even looks like Kraven in that movie.

I personally feel the only logical choice is both The Lizard and Kraven the Hunter at this point. I mean, I love Sam Raimi, but if he wants to have Peter keep growing, then it would be perfect for Spider-man to not only defeat both The Lizard and Kraven, but SAVE The Lizard at the same time since its Dr. Connors. Thats my own personal opinion. I just think it's the right move after Spider-man 3. I'm open to other villains.... not so much when it comes to Morbius, though.

I think Peter's personal story for part 4 should revolve around him finally embracing his role as Spider-man which leads to Pete trying to save everyone and realizing by film's end that he can't! Casualties should be Kraven, Gwen Stacy and her father. MJ should be off in Paris pursuing her modeling career, as her and Pete are on an indefinite break. She can be brought back in part 6, where she finally marries Peter.

The main focus of Peter's personal life should be his day to day existence as a student, and working with Doc Connors and Dr. Morbius after school to make up for his missing relationship with Dr. Octavius. His growth would be graduating from the role of apprentice through necessity and desperation.

He could discover that Connors has secretly been working on experiments on regeneration. Later, after Connors has turned into the Lizard, Pete could have made further advances continuing with Connors work on his own, which leads to Pete finding a way to reverse Connor's transformation!

When the melee happens where Gwen and her father are shot, Pete could arrive too late with a corrected version of Connor's serum - which forces him to accept the fact of life that death is inevitable! Wrap this around my idea for 4 from my previous posts and - BAM! there you have it!
