THEORY: Is Max Landis writing Sony's upcoming 'SPIDER-MAN' film?

Max Landis, writer of the 2012 found-footage film 'Chronicle', recently went on twitter to drop what I believe are hints about his future endeavors. Shortly after the Sony/Marvel deal was announced, Landis went on twitter and posted a series of Spider-Man themed tweets and retweets, all while claiming to have snagged a project he isn't allowed to talk about. The tweets are below.

He started things off with this tweet:

Now, if you'll recall, a few months ago (around the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Landis sent out a few tweets claiming that Marvel had reacquired Spider-Man. These tweets were met with much backlash and shortly after being posted, they were removed.

To me, this suggests that perhaps Landis knew something we didn't at the time. Perhaps he knew this deal was in the works (which, if you go by the Sony emails, Marvel has been going back and forth with Sony for a while now). Perhaps Landis has an "in" at Marvel and knows this information because he's in the Spidey loop?

Following the "hate to say I told you so" tweet, Landis posted a few more tweets. This one, where he states that he can't discuss a project he's currently working on:

This one, where he discusses how he goes about handling reboots of established properties:

And this one, where he talks about how the public's reaction to announcements of projects involving him has changed:

He then went on to retweet a series of tweets from fans that imply he'd be a good fit for the wall-crawling hero:

Also, recently Landis directed a video for Ariana Grande, during which he spent time with Drew Goddard, who has a working relationship with both Marvel AND Sony and could, in theory, be Landis' foot in the door with both studios:

There's a slew of other information as well. Landis has confirmed before that he met with the people at Marvel to discuss working on the cancelled "Hulk" TV series. So, he's obviously been brought in by them before. It's possible they brought him back in for Spider-Man.

Now, I'm not an idiot. I know this all seems rather thin and it could just be Landis messing around with people, trying to get a reaction. It could also be about his much hinted-at DC Comics partnership, during which he plans to write a series of comics based on Superman. But there have been theories formed around much less than this.

Anyway, just wanted to throw it out there and see what everyone else thinks. Is Landis just pulling our leg, or is he actually in the running to write the upcoming Spider-Man film?

Let me know what you think in the comments.
