Want To See The Amazing Spider-Man And MIB 3 In 3D? Then You'll Have To Pay Extra!

In a surprise move, Sony have today revealed that they'll no longer be paying theaters for 3D glasses, meaning that you'll have to pay even more if you want to see either of the above movies in the format come 2012...

The Hollywood Reporter reveal that Sony Picture Entertainment has today issue a letter to theater owners in the US stating that they will no longer pay for 3D glass, beginning in May 2012, in a move which is likely to see other studios follow suit. This is already fairly common in countries like the UK, where the majority of major cinema chains no longer offer up free 3D glasses, instead asking customers to pay for a pair they can take home with them and bring back next time... if they want to.

"This is an issue that has to be resolved between us and our exhibition partners. We are trying to give them a very lengthy lead time in regards to the change in policy," Sony worldwide president of distribution Rory Bruer said. The site also report that studios like Sony often spend upwards of $5 - $10 million on glasses for big movies, two of which they're releasing next year. The Amazing Spider-Man and Men In Black 3. There are a lot more details to be found by clicking on the link below, but what this basically means is that if you want to watch either of these in 3D, you'll have to pay even more!

The US got free 3D? We still have to pay extra whether we bring our own 3D glasses or not.

Ah well, it's shit most of the time anyway, the real-D 3D ad with the robo-dog and hovering ball is the best thing out there anyway. Avatar was alright in 3D. Alice in Wonderland was OK. Thor 3D made me dizzy. GL 3D looked cartoony. Tron looked good in 3D. dont remember much else ive seen.

I don't mind the few quid extra for the actual movie but if they want money for the glasses too they can [frick] right off.

@Gaston Thank you, my man.
Idk about Men In Black, but I'll definitely pay extra for Spider-Man. Especially since I heard that visually, it'll be amazing (pun intended), and that's what I like to see in 3D.

Good thing I have no intention of seeing either of those movies in 3D or 2D.

Waiting for this 3D craze to blow over already, maybe people having to start shelling out a couple more dollars than before will do the trick.

I hate 3D so much oh my goodness. If I had three wishes from a genie they would be...

1) World Peace
2) Solve world hunger
3) Delete 3D from existence

Why in the [frick] do I have to keep paying for 3D glasses then throw them away? That time is over, I kept my last pair, paid for the 2D version of the movie and walked into the 3D version. Problem solved for now...

I already pay extra to watch 3D movies >:(

But to be honest.... I'd rather have my own pair... the reusable ones at Imax are nasty.

So it was free, but we still had to pay $5 extra? WTF?! So how much is it now? $3 on top of that! I don't wanna have to pay $17 to see Spider-Man in 3D! I really wanted to see this in 3D since it was filmed that way, but if the movies shorter than 2 1/2 hours than it won't be worth it for me.

been like that in UK since the start.

you buy one pair you keep them and take them next time you go, if not you spend a couple of extra £'s

hardly going to kill 3D...

Being able to have one pair that I can bring back with me and not having to pay more every time sounds much better to me.

You already have to pay more for 3D ANYWAY. So now we will pay more and have to bring our own glasses.

@alucard365- Fail insult. LMAO

You're telling Sony to forget the glasses and spend the money to make decent movies when selling glasses will make them more money to improve their movies.
