Not Satisfied with SUICIDE SQUAD's Joker? This Fan-Film Might Quench Your Thirst

This fan-film, based off of Scott Snyder's Death of the Family arc, shows us a more twisted, gruesome, and R-Rated Joker than we've ever seen in live action. Check out this wonderful fan film by the Hallivis Brothers to explore a Joker and Harley story where Batman DOESN'T come save the day.

Amidst praise, hate, and "meh's" for Jared Leto's portrayal of classic DC supervillain Joker, a recently released fan film by the Hallivis Brother's aims to show fans a take on the Joker that Warner Bros. probably will never have the balls to release. In this NSFW fan film inspird by the work of Scott Snyder, the Joker gets a fresh new take that many fans might've been looking for in Suicide Squad. Released only 2 days before Suicide Squad, The Laughing Man has already recieved almost 300,000 views. Based on the comment section, it's been recieved better by fans than SS as well.

Speaking with No Film School, Director Diego Hallivis said this about the film: "We wanted to tell a story that centered on the Joker without Batman showing up to save the day. A story that didn’t need to be PG-13 for commercial reasons...We knew we had to push it and do something very gory, something studios won’t do." He also said they were inspired by Jake Gylenhaal's performance in the critically acclaimed Nightcrawler to portray Joker as a "raw, crazy, psychopath." Check out the fan film below!

@ComicsBornAndBred - Definitely. Sometimes it's interesting seeing fans with super low budgets make a more compelling project than Hollywood. I wonder if some of these are made from frustration of big studios not getting it right.

If the studios were smart, they'd hire/consult people like these and leave them to their creative designs. It could turn into huge profits.

But WB could also go Paramount against Star Trek fan films after they felt threatened.

@Potato - Star Wars still supports fan films. They have some AMAZING FAN FILMS

I think fans sometimes ant to see their story told and may be frustrated with Hollywood. Nowadays, you don't need film school to how how to make a movie. It's trail and error. Grab the camera and go for it.

People are more exploratory now. Thanks to youtube.

The studios should consult fans like these. They've got some real talent.

@ComicsBornAndBred - Oh yes, I've seen some amazing Star Wars fan films. I love how supportive Lucasfilm are of them. They even have fan awards.

Yeah, I love this creator-based era we're living in.

And agreed about the consulting. These kind of fans would give them a winning formula of stories that would appeal to fanboys AND the general audience. Box office gold.

@Potato - I think smaller budgets breed creativity. This film was made entirely on free labor. Everybody involved wanted to be there.

That's why Deadpool was such a success, and I hope their budget doesn't go up too much. They did wonders with little, which made it even more successful.

Same goes for the Netflix series'

@ComicsBornAndBred - wanted to let you know me and my son saw SS opening night and loved it (except for 3rd act) which is one of the most over used endings these days ala The Avengers. AOU, The Phantom Menace, etc.! And thanks to you're info we were really looking toward to the mid credits scene!

@cbostont102 - no problem! Glad you liked yea I didn't like the third act either.

I mean it was cool when The Avengers first did it back in 2012, but now it's become cliche. Idk, we need a final fight sometimes but maybe we need a refreshing way of going about it.

Here's an idea: what if the joker wasn't very scary? I mean Heath Ledger has already made the scariest and deepest psycopath possible. What if they actually made a less serious character. I would actually like if the Joker was hilarious and he would just do stuff to have fun instead of 'proving points'.

Like this fella? agreed TAS Joker as really funny and kind of scary at the same time and he did stuff to have fun.

I really miss TAS

@JaredLetoJoker - EXACTLY. I really miss that show. Every Joker scene should be at least as funny as the pencil scene in TDK.

Mehhhh....I enjoyed Leto's take with the little I saw of him. Want to see more and his interaction with Batman, one on one. That will truly show what he can do.

SS got caught in a situation where they didn't know how much to show of Joker, without making him the main villain and easily over shadow what they had in place, there comes in his deleted scenes sadly. I would have preferred a more teaser of Joker, then what we got.....and save him for a main villain of The Batman or a SS sequel.

Good production values, but those actors were chewing up the scenery, huh?

Never mind, I take back what I said. This is like every other fan film. It looks pretty but everything else is pretty shit. That's a terrible interpretation of the Joker. He stared out a generic, soft-spoken, psychopath and only got cringier the more the actor "let loose."

I have incredible respect for anyone who knows how to correctly write or play Joker. From everything I've seen, apparently both are incredibly hard for people.
