Rocksteady's SUICIDE SQUAD: KILL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE Reportedly Pushed Back To 2023

Fans have been eagerly anticipating Rocksteady's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. According to a new report, however, the video game is expected to be pushed back to 2023.

It's been close to a decade since Rocksteady Studios' last DC-set game, Batman: Arkham Knight, was released. Now, the studio is gearing up for another foray into the DC Universe via Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The game will put players in control of Task Force X, as they try their best to take down a Justice League who's being mind-controlled by Brainiac.

The game was announced in August of 2020, and was expected to be released at some point in 2022. Unfortunately, it looks like fans will have to wait longer for the game to arrive.

According to Bloomberg, Warner Media has "quietly delayed" the game until 2023. No reason was given, and it's important to note that neither Warner Bros. nor Rocksteady Studios has released an official statement. The reported move is surprising, however, given that just in December of last year, Warner Bros. released an in-depth look at the game showing off the traversal and combat mechanics of its main characters: Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot and King Shark.

This reported delay will likely raise questions about the state of Kill the Justice League, and while the reasons behind it possibly getting pushed back are unknown, fans should keep an open mind. Assuming the delay is indeed happening and it's due to quality control or polishing, the game could end up benefitting from it.

Suicide Squad will be an open-world game, and with advancements in engine and console technology, crafting a playable environment that's large and detailed enough to meet current open-world standards requires a significant amount of time and effort. Again, assuming quality played a factor in this reported delay, it being moved to 2023 could give its developers the opportunity to polish it as much as possible.

While we wait for the game's status to be officially addressed by Warner Bros., take a look at its synopsis, which provides a general idea of the tone and mechanics:

"Discover the origins of Amanda Waller's infamous Task Force X (a.k.a. the Suicide Squad) as Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark begrudgingly embark on their mission to take down the World's Greatest DC Super Heroes, The Justice League. Featuring an original narrative set within an expansive open-world city of Metropolis, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League puts the four DC Super-Villains on a collision course with an invading alien force and DC Super Heroes who are now laser-focused on destroying the city they once vowed to protect. All the while, the Suicide Squad must be mindful of the lethal explosives implanted in their heads that could go off at the first sign of defiance.

Each squad member has their own unique moveset with enhanced traversal abilities to freely explore the dynamic open-world of Metropolis, along with a variety of weapons to customize, and skills to master. Fans can tailor their experience, whether playing on their own as a single-player, or teaming up with friends in multiplayer co-op."

Game development really does take a little too long nowadays. Rocksteady will have a 8 year gap between games. That's crazy.

@Nightwing1015 - Not to mention COVID-19, Supply Chain Shortage, and Inflation hitting at the same time. Production costs are going up, employees are fighting back against Corporate Greed, and supply chain issues are preventing products being mass produced to meet demand.

@Nightwing1015 - Game development does take way too long. I didn't even buy any new games last year for PS5. This year I'm looking forward to Horizon: Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarok, but that's only 2 games in a year. God of War: Ragnarok doesn't even have a proper release date yet and could easily get delayed, meaning I'd only be buying 1 game this year.

@kingjoeg - buy the time you buy this game ps6 will be released what’s time frame of new systems being made 4 to 6 years? Longer since Covid

@dragon316 - Haha. If it takes Rocksteady 8 years to make 1 game then at that rate they'll only get 1 game out per console generation. Something needs to change to make game development quicker.

This game hasn't intrigued me enough yet. I'm not sure if it's the character designs or just the characters the storyline in general. Gotham Knights looks more enjoyable in my opinion.

Wasn't it always scheduled for 2023? That was what was in the original trailer from 2020 Fandome.

Am I the only one that still wants a Batman Beyond Game/trilogy? It would only be right.

@TheRationalNerd - That was in production but cancelled. There's a bunch of concept art for it out there. Wish they had stuck with that game instead tbh.

I'll be honest for me personally this game just hasn't been one that looks like I need to get. I'm just not a fan of Game as a service (GaaS) type games.

I'd like to be proven wrong, but right now it just doesn't look like it is for me.

I hope with the delay the game can reach the potential that the game developers wanted, for this game

@BlackIceJoe - Open World mmorpgs with create a character systems kinda ruined single played experience games for me. I get bored when I'm forced to stick to one story or rails, I've been spoiled with options. The idea of essentially this being like Fortnite or some shit where you pick 1 of 4 characters and go out on a map and kill things over and over.... that sounds boring to me, just like Apex and Fort. Or any fps game where you battle the same maps over and over.

The last single player experience game I finished were the Spiderman PS4 games.

I hate that all these games are delayed. This, Gotham Knights, Midnight Suns, Hogwarts Legacy... On the other side, no one wants a game that's only half finished so I get why they do it.

Rocksteady needs to make a Superman game already. Hopefully Suicide Squad is closer to the quality of Arkham Asylum and City than Origins (which, granted, wasn't Rocksteady) and Knight.

@Darkknight2149 - a good Superman game is long overdue, but I’m convinced that we will get 3 “The Detachable Kid” games before we get a good Superman game.

They need time to pre-develop the Day 1 DLC that will need to be bought seperatly from the original half game that will be released.

I have zero interest in a Suicide Squad game. I couldn't care less about playing as those character. Why not give us Justice League?
