SUICIDE SQUAD Director David Ayer Reveals What He Wanted Enchantress To Look Like In The Movie

Suicide Squad director David Ayer continues to drop hints about his "Ayer Cut" of the DC Comics adaptation, this time revealing what he really wanted Enchantress to look like in his version of the movie.

When Zack Snyder's Justice League is released on HBO Max, Steppenwolf is expected to have a completely different appearance, but if and when the "Ayer Cut" of Suicide Squad is released, then it sounds like we could see a totally new version of Enchantress as well.

The villain ended up looking somewhat comical in the theatrical version as she hula'd her way across the screen, but after a fan shared some concept art from the movie, Ayer responded by confirming that, "This is where I wanted to take her look." Needless to say, this is a huge departure from what ended up on screen, and it looks a lot cooler than what we saw in Suicide Squad.

There's been no official word on whether Warner Bros. will #ReleaseTheAyerCut, and while that movement certainly has its fair share of support, it doesn't quite have the passionate following that the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign did. As a result, it's hard to say whether the studio is listening.

Stranger things have happened, though, and if Justice League is well-received, Suicide Squad could follow on HBO Max somewhere down the line.

Still looks a bit over designed.

The key with Suicide Squad was simple. The comics were simple, bad guys go in, kill a foreign dictator or whatever, topple the regime so that the government can take over.

It should have been something smaller, not "Incubus"

@DannRamm113 - I feel like the Safdies could make an amazing Suicide Squad film. Not really commercial, but it’d be insanely tense, especially with the ticking clock element of the head explosives

@DannRamm113 - should have been just the Suicide Squad vs The Joker or The Riddler. How sad is it that the animated movie Assault on Arkham was a better representation. Although I do think Harley was perfect in Ayers movie and just hated Birds of Prey, the difference is they made the world of Birds of Prey so cartoonish that there was no contrast for Harley. Harley should stand out!

If the director wanted her to look like that.....why isn't it in the film? Who would overrule him?

Perhaps he's just saying this

@hazapez - I mean I guess they could. But would they really overrule a design? It's not like that's gonna make or break the film

@Nightwing1015 - looking at this and the sub comments.... how is there anyone on this site who doesn’t understand studio execs meddling in the creative process. People like Geoff Johns and Avi Arad have the blood of countless movies dripping from their fingers.

@MrJosh - Oh I get that kind of thing happens all the time. But it's usually in story issues. Like "you gotta put this villain in there". "you gotta set this up".

They rarely step in on aesthetic issues.

Slightly off topic, but binge watched the first season of Hanna last week and have to say, Joel Kinnaman was excellent. Was not expecting that after SS. Much respect.

bleh
why do movie makers hate the comic book suits? they dont update them, they completely delete them and make their own boring and generic versions

No single one of these movies can ever just be bad. There's always someone or something to blame, or some alternative that is automatically 10x better (even though we haven't seen it).

Can we get the whatshisface cut if Thor the Dark World? Watched it again after Endgame and was like “I hope they give Snyder his cut so every movie on earth can have a better version than my subjective opinion”

Grungy Enchantress is an acquired taste. I have seen fanart that makes her look badass, just didn't stick the landing with it in the movie. Like everything else in that film.

@GothamSon - Well this might be an unpopular opinion then but I actually liked her original design and even didn't mind her as the main villain, it's that they took her from this:

To this (which even this I don't think would've been so bad if not for the shitty cgi and the dodgy dancing):

Although even if they fixed that, it was just one of the many things wrong with this movie.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - Yeah, it doesn't have to be an unpopular opinion at all. The costume is solid,I really like the central american native motifs etc. and she looks jaw-dropping in it. Needs more green like the comic, but in that gif above, the smokey stuff makes her look epic.

The 'finale' costume, however, needs to be burned out of existence with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns. Ugh.
