Before he heads-up his own HBO Max series as the righteously unstable Peacemaker, John Cena will make his debut as the DC Comics villain in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad this August, and the former WWE Champion chatted about stepping into the role during an interview with Den of Geek.
Cena revealed that he tried his hand at "trying to crack the DC code for a long time" before hearing that Gunn wanted him for Peacemaker (he doesn't mention which other parts he read for), and that he initially envisioned the character as a "drill sergeant, Full Metal Jacket-esque personality" before the filmmaker explained that he was looking for more of a "douchey, bro-y Captain America.”
Of course, Cena isn't the only former WWE Superstar set to join the DCEU, and the actor was also asked about the possibility of Peacemaker squaring off with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Black Adam at some point.
"Well, like I said before, I think the DCU is making steps in the right direction, and certainly, there’s a lot of buzz behind Black Adam as well," said Cena on the prospect of reigniting one of the all-time great WWE rivalries. "We’re all kind of under the same umbrella. So do I have hope? I always have hope. I know audiences really enjoyed what we were able to do [in WWE] and if we’re able to transfer that excitement and passion from live entertainment to the big screen, I think it seems like a pretty logical jump, but I don’t make those choices. So all I can do is just keep doing me, man."
While it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility for Peacemaker to cross paths with Teth Adam down the line, we'll probably be waiting a long time to see it - unless Warner Bros. is already cooking up a Black Adam/Suicide Squad crossover we're not aware of!
What do you guys think? Would you like to see Cena and Johnson mix it up in the DC Films Universe someday?
